I arose last week to find the countryside shrouded in thick thick fog. I got on the bike to go to work (10 miles each way) and I opted to go in "full visibility mode". Dual halogens up front... LED motorcycle tail light and Xenon strobe in back... hi-vis yellow reflective vest. All of that in addition to strategically applied reflective tape on the bike.

On the way to work, one of my coworkers passed me and gave me a polite honk of the horn and a wave. After I got to work, I asked him how visible I was in the fog.

"Dude... you looked like a freaking UFO."

"Nice... then you saw my lights a long way off?"

"No man... I saw that vest from a mile away. It was the first thing that I saw. The lights didn't really show up until I got closer."

All of my lights and batteries... and it looks like the $10 reflective vest works better in the fog! *sigh*

Impressive. What brand of vest do you have?

It's just a cheapie that I found at Home Depot. I like it because it's sleeveless and very light weight. Hi-vis yellow with two horizontal reflective strips. I think that it was under $10.00... can't beat that bang for the buck.
