I justgot some new shimano road shoes and need to transfer cleats...any shortcuts as how to set them up so they are in the same location. also I was told to use locktight? any suggestions

This is what I do.
Attach the cleats to the shoes firmly but so that they can still move. Put the shoes on, clip into the pedals, then take your feet out of the shoes leaving the shoes in the pedals.
Move the pedal to the forward position, with the crank arm parralel to the floor. Now manually move the shoe around on the pedal till you get the right orientation, using the crank as a guide. Flip the shoe over and with a sharp pick, scribe a line following the outline of the cleat. Put your foot back in the shoe and release shoe, line up the outline on the shoe with the cleat and tighten the bolts.
You're done.
No loctite, grease or oil and don't go nuts tightening the bolts, the threads in the shoes are not that tough.

No grease? I disagree. Having had to drill out cleat bolts, I'd argue for grease. There are very few things I think are loctite-necessary on a bike. I came up with a list once, and it had two items as I recall. Can't remember what either was, now.

Get them in tight enough, but not too tight. If you loose a bolt when your clipped in, it can be very difficult to clip out. I once had a shoe stuck on a pedal for the whole of the ride. To clip out, I had to undo the velcro and pull by foot out. However, you are going to have to replace the cleat eventually, so don't over torque it so it's never coming out.
