I ended up riding with other commuters twice this week. Figure the odds of that. I’ve been commuting pretty regularly since last August and have only exchanged a few words with another commuter a couple of times. On Monday I met up with a guy in my neighborhood that I have seen riding home a few times. We rode about 3 miles together and discussed routes and work etc. He was riding a comfort bike and was set up well for his 6 mile commute. After we parted ways I came as close as I ever have to getting run over. It was not your regular commute.
On Tuesday I was able to catch a guy on a road bike with panniers. I was on my single speed road bike and feeling pretty good about this until he said that it was his first ride of the season. Oh well. He works at the same place I do so I offered to show him my route that gets you off the heavy traffic roads as much as possible. So we road in the next 6 miles or so together. He was obviously a good rider and I was glad to show him a safer and more enjoyable route.
I’ve had a few encounters over the last few months with stuck up cyclists so it was cool for this to happen.

Stay safe,
CD

Yeah, absolutely. If we are not careful, extra careful, we can easily be ran over.
Not long ago, coming home on a quite road, I was passed by Mercedes that in 20 meters started to turn right and then suddenly changed his mind and started a U turn. Well, this time I almost ran over him, :D but either way would not be nice.
I was much more cautios after that.

You be careful to, CD know that it's always nice to see and wave at other cycling folks.

Cheers.

I always extend greetings to other cyclists. Most of the time they return the courtesy.

Yesterday was one of the few occasions when I encountered another rider. He came in from a side road and was just out for an afternoon ride vice commuting. Of course he had to come up after I had just sprinted up a hill, so I was trying to act as casual as possible and not appear to be breathing as hard as I was.

It was nice to ride with somebody.

I see other commuters all the time. It isn't uncommon for me to run into someone I know on the commute and ride with them. I go to school with several of my neighbours, and we often share the commute together. There is pretty much one road from my town to the city, so almost all the commuters ride it. There are probably at least ten people I know pretty well (childhood friends, neighbours, teachers at the college, other students, friends of my paretns, etc.) who commute on this route (and many more I don't), so meeting up with people I know is pretty common. I've actually met a few new people commuting, usually I'll see the same few people over and over again and we just get talking.
