OK, here's the question. Should I put different components on it to ride and wear out, or just ride what I have and look for replacement parts as I go along? I bought it to ride after all, not to just sit there and look pretty(it will do that while moving!).

That bike has very good well-functioning parts, but nothing that you shouldn't use. Properly maintained, you'll have to do an awful lot of riding to wear them out. The bike looks practically unused so I imagine the parts are like new. I'd just change the gearing if necessary for your terrain, maybe put a set of Tektro levers on, clean and grease all the bearings, and ride it.

+1 Ride it like you bought it, maybe look at a gearing change if you have a lot of hills, and enjoy. Vintage road bikes often have gearing that requires a great motor, or flat terrain. Since I have neither, I decided to change gearing instead.

Good news there - not much in the way of real hills around here - unless I get out in the country and the cars are pretty dangerous there with no shoulders. So it looks like the win/win for me - new bar tape and levers and ride!:thumb:
