Hello internets, new to the forums, pleasure to meet you all.
Hate my first post to be a request for help but...

Found her at the swap meet, 25bucks, too tall for me, want to post on craigs. I tried using the schwinn serial database but couldnt find her. perhaps because she's from the Giant plant in taiwan(??)
Anyway i get the feeling the model isnt simply "World", maybe the decal rubbed off at some time who knows..

can anyone help out with a model and year?

Yeah, the model name is just "world", there was one model up called the world sport. Yours is probably a mid 80's model most likely made in taiwan. It's not a really high end model, but it's a very nice quality solid bike. Since you plan on flipping it, don't put a lot of money into it. Get basic cheap cables and tires for it and give it a good cleaning, the bearings probably need to be repacked too. 25.00 is a good price for any bike, you got a nice solid one with a well recognized name.

It looks like it has suntour components, that would be a nice plus also. Here is an 84 schwinn world on velospace that is very similar to yours:

The frame was made by Giant in Taiwan, April 1984 (G0484 on right dropout). It does appear to be a "World", but the '84 catalog shows the World as being available only in Red or Warm Silver:

1984 World catalog page (http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1980_1990/1984Ltwt16.html)

The 1984 World Sport, on the other hand, was available in Black or Sky Blue:

1984 World Sport catalog page (http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1980_1990/1984Ltwt15.html)

The World Sport frame had 4130 Chro Moly main tubes, while the World frame had Hi-Ten carbon steel for all the tubes. Also, the World was a ten speed (five cogs) and the World Sport was twelve speed (six cogs). It's hard to tell from your photos, but it looks like yours only has five cogs, which would make it a World in spite of the blue paint.

Your bike sure looks like a World, but the Sky Blue paint really throws me.
