Bicycle Mechanics - Valvola Regina

There is a valve out there. Outside of Italy it is rare and not well known . 'Valvola Regina' . Sometimes it is called 'valvola classica' . Apparently the woods valves are also called classica. What kind of valve is this? I know it is similar to Presta valves. Is it generally compatible with the common presta pumps?

One of my bikes came with them one once. I was so misguided they got tossed because I wanted woods valves.

The Woods type valves are rarely seen these days. The Velox patch kits used to include a spare Woods insert (a short open ended latex tube about 1cm long and 2mm in diameter) to repair Woods valves (they had a reputation, and there's a reason you don't see them anymore).

I have used woods valves for years and still use them. I have encountered some problems but they have worked for me. I have the undestanding 'valvola regina' is something similar to presta valves different from the woods valve. Germans also call presta valves french or Sclavenrand valves. There are naming issues.

Tradicional bikes, Italian, use the Queen Valve, the one with a threaded cap that you remove, and is filled with any pump that has a small hole, first you have to press the cap to unblock the valve, because it tends to glue itself.
