Recreational & Family - Replacement ideas for a Gazelle Chamonix (aka the school taxi)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a Gazelle Chamonix which doubles as the school taxi and also the bike for riding to the station when wearing a suit. Whereas my Birdy is an effortless joy to ride, and a fast one at that, I find the Gazelle a momentous effort to cycle and to my dismay, despite putting in a lot more effort than on the Birdy, I get overtaken by everyone, even those 30 years older! The Gazelle is also giving my hamstrings jip, so I guess the geometry just doesn't suit me.
As I have a front and rear childseats fitted I'm toying with getting a step-through ie woman's bike to make dismounting more stable. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks

If you're asking about a commuter bike, try the Commuting forum.
Or you could try the General Cycling forum.
Depends if you want all the same features as the Gazelle...i.e. lights, fenders, dynamo hub, rack, etc.
Electra Townie and Breezer bikes should be on your list. If you want something faster and add your own accessories, then look for a bike with 700c tires. Lot of choices and brands. Really need to test ride a few and see if you like them or not.

I would love to see a picture of your current set up. Maybe that would give me some ideas?
