Hi Guys

New to the forum so I hope this is the correct section :)

Looking for some tyres for my bike

Two main criteria are

1. Solid black with no stripes (I don’t mind manufacturers labels but I’d rather have them as plain as possible)
2. Either an old fashioned tread pattern or as slick as possible

The bike is a “1930’s” Path style racer so I’d like something which would be in keeping with this style of bike

The bike will only be used in the dry summer months for leisure so I’m not to concerned about performance

The size required is 700 38C (I’m not sure what this is in inches)

It’s the size that is limiting my choice so far the two I am considering are the Schwalbe Marathon Plus in 700 38C or the Raleigh Dutch perfect in 700 35C (will these fit?)

Can anyone recommend any other tyres or have experience of the above? I am based in the UK but I could organise shipping from the US if necessary

You could try the Electra Amsterdam tire - in either blackwall or whitewall - its 700C X 40. There are Schwalbe Marathons that resemble the Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tire.

I'm getting a Schwalbe Marathon Racer to be outfitted on my Schwinn Super Sport. It does not have the necessary clearance for a Schwalbe Big Apple or Fat Frank balloon tire.

A good source to browse around w/ lots of tyre choices (and is based in France) is http://www.xxcycle.com/bicycle-tyres,en.php. The website is a bit awkward to navigate, but they seem to have lots of choices that might work for you.

The two best non-race (though they both produce excellent race tires, other companies are competitive with them in terms of race tires) tire producers in the world are based in Germany (IMHO) and they are continental and schwalbe. Either the contact or the marathon plus are good options. My opinion is that at the lower price point the contact is better than the basic marathon but the maraton plus is probably comparable to the continental top touring etc..
