The ER docs were fabulously wrong. Got an MRI yesterday.. Not what I wanted to hear.
Full ACL tear, partial lcl and complex meniscus tear or something like that. Some kinda cyst on the back of the knee, 5cm wide.

Seeing the ortho tomorrow. :(

Sorry man.
I've been cut on numerous occasions. It's not so bad.
Show up early with a couple of dozen of the best Dunkin' Doughnuts has to offer and present it to the nurses' station on your floor.

Wish you the best of luck. I'm going under the knife on Friday for a torn meniscus. Woohoo. It will be nice to get back on the bike though, it's been over four months since I was able to ride. The doc I saw originally really missed my diagnosis as well.

I hope they can repair the meniscus. The docs were able to repair mine when they did the ACL but that meant 6 weeks with no weight bearing.

Sorry skinny - at least it sounds like a sexy sports medicine injury.

Good luck with the procedure and keep us posted.

Me too- take care! Allen, that's a fabulous suggestion! Way back when I worked in nursing, this kind of gesture was always very well received and remembered. Don't think of it as a bribe, but as a gift of appreciation for all the hard work they do.

GL with your operation.
nurse is a mostly thankless job so be sure to let them know you appreciate their professionalism.

Yes, yes it does. But you'd have to given them a pipe or brownie mix to go with that. What? Oh, never mind...:innocent:

+1

When my wife had ankle surgery, every medically oriented person that walked through the door asked the same questions, and she had markers all over her leg indicating which one to cut.

I have had both my ACL's done at different times- Try to do physical therapy before the surgery and make sure you ask for a Polar Care machine to handle the post surgery swelling.

Take away jsharr's coffee and he'll do the cuttin' for free whether you like it or not. Offer him coffee afterward and you might even get a good job done.

Full ACL tear, partial lcl and complex meniscus tear or something like that. Some kinda cyst on the back of the knee, 5cm wide.I don't even know what half of that crap is, but blech! Maybe it'd be easier to just ask about a new robotic leg?

Best wishes! There have been a number of cases in the news where the wrong operation was performed, or the right operation was performed in the wrong location.

In the last few years, I've had several operations...during the preps for them, I was asked multiple times what was to be done and where, to double check that they were going to do the right thing to the right patient; and people used marker pens to write the equivalent of "cut here" on my body.

good luck Skinny.

I must say modern medicine is pretty amazing. For example, I've had two hernia repairs - the first, done in 1984, was an inpatient procedure, resulting in super painful staples, lots and lots of Demerol and months of soreness. Oh - and a huge scar. I even had to use a cane for a few days and developed a fever immediately afterward. For months afterward I was super tender and couldn't even begin to think about doing anything strenuous or athletic. Walking was a chore and laughing/coughing was a painful adventure.

Fast forward to 2003 - had the other side done lapryscopically. It hurt about the same the first day, but much less the next and I was walking almost normally the third day. Fourth day I was riding my bike gently around the block. I felt totally normal after a couple of weeks. My tiny scar was barely noticeable right after and is pretty much invisible today.

Hoping your convalescence is as fast and smooth.:)

Good luck. Just remember, chicks dig scars, and maybe you'll get a hot physical therapist to work with afterwards. (Although I've heard that people swear at their physical therapists and say "I hate you!" because of the pain they put you through breaking up the scar tissue.)
