Utility Cycling - Metrofiets

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone riding one? I like the CETMA, but I am fond of the steel work on this;
I have kids to pick up at school daily, and the wooden bucket is functional (and pretty cool).
btw, I did a search, and didn't find any info...
so, any owners out there care to share?

American-sourced and built Dutch-style metrofiet box bike. Price is $2,334. $$$$ but less than a complete Surly Big Dummy build.

Note that the $2,334 is just the box and frame, doesn't include wheels, cranks, chain, whatever.
Some of the ones in the pictures have really wide front tires, not sure what they are.

What about the CAT Long Haul:

The two seem similar. Has anyone seen both IRL to be able to make a comparison?
[QUOTE=Elkhound;8347172]What about the CAT Long Haul:
Thanks! I knew about the CAT longjohn with the plastic box up front, but hadn't checked their site in some time, I didn't know they had the wooden box (good for kids) available...or they might have all along, but I dont remember seeing it...
One difference I see is the Metrofiets has 26" front & rear wheels, all others seem to have 20 inch up front. 'Dont know what that means in terms of handling, or ride, (or tire selection) but I kinda like the 26:26 look...

I've been riding this for a couple of months now. $1400.00 not to bad for a no name cargo bike that's made in china with some decent components. So far so good we'll see how well she holds up . I bought it at morganimports.com

Joe Bike in Portland sells the same one, but retrofits it with some more reliable components:

Its actually from Flying Pigeon, whose Roadster and folder bike have received good reviews on this forum. Joe Bike in Portland upgrades the FP cargo bike with more reliable components for a total cost of $1200. Not a bad offer for a FP bike from China!

I've heard kind of mixed comments on the FP, actually- seems to be talked about more than used by forumers.
I did run across this ad:

Doesn't even include paint.

The full build metrofiets prices out at45oo and change, but it is a great parts spec, chris king headsets and bottom brackets, brooks seat and grips 24inch front disc generator wheel rear is 26inch alfine IGH - the only thing i would have preferred to see on such a build would be hydro disc brakes over mech
