Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I was curious (GDT?) (C&A needs a General What's Happening Thread)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does this forum have a GDT (General Discussion Thread)? Why I am asking is I see this is the most friendly of the forum sections and their are a few regulars.

Guess this would be it, the GDT, for now.
I can't wait to get out of here (work) so I can get home and hop my butt back on the bike. Yesterday afternoon, I had the best bike ride ever. Left the house in the pouring rain and caught a nice break less than an hour later when the sun suddenly popped out. Since I ride on a paved trail that snakes through the woods, the experience: sunlight reflecting off of the trees, clean forest smells and (to steal a phrase) the sounds of silence, all while pedaling, was like magic.
All I want now is to go out and do it again.

Yea, I work usually at night so in the mornings I cycle and get out and be active. I could only cycle 10 miles today due to so much wind I almost was knocked off 3 times even with such a heavy bike. Though I did do the customary "use my leg as a kickstand" and even worse unclipped my right leg and fell to the left. At least it was in the garage!
I am still trying to figure out what kind of bicycle to purchase this summer. Whatever I get it has to be between $1000-1400 being that I will have to buy new shoes, road pedals, and probably buying some new clothing all at the same time :P

I bought mine used. Ended up gettting a $2500-$3000 Canondale for just over $500, left me with plenty of extra cash for the accessories you mention. The only downside was that I needed to replace the "lightweight" racing rim in the rear after only a few hundred miles because it kept popping spokes (Curse of the Clyde?), but the wheel only cost a little over $100.
A lot of folks buy new bikes and then don't use them very much. These days, with the economy as it is, they often sell what they don't use. One or another LBS should have several used bikes to choose from. Those bikes are often reconditioned: clean, usually with new cables, lubed bearings, and (if lucky) a nice set of tires.

On other boards I read, GDT is Game Day Thread. Now I'm disappointed we're not talking about hockey!!

odd...all the forums I go to it means General Discussion Thread. It makes it so you can talk without having to talk about a specific topic.
That would most definitely be the Foo Forum or General Cycling

So today I rode for 15 miles today and then another 10 miles at 100cadence on the indoor trainer.
I do not know why, but I find that when I am on the trainer I kind of try to get myself to sweat as much as I can. I put on my jersey, t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, and hoodie....I know it sound really weird, but afterwords I feel very "relieved" and better about myself.
I find this sub-forum is much friendlier than the others, they take the time to answer questions and respond instead of copy and paste links to get you to go away.
that's cause were all jolly, except for Mr. Beanz, he's The Meaner Beaner. :p
