I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman, and I was very pleased with the movie. It's a well-made film, in some ways disturbing.
Coraline is a wonderful character, and she seems more alive than she did in the book. (My wife disagrees with that one.)
The animation is amazing, even more impressive when you find out that it's largely not CGI.

looking forward to the movie because i loved the book. a real alice in wonderland feel to it. if i had been 10 when i read the book i'm sure i would have pretended to have butterfly wings and be eating flowers for a few months.....among other things :)

The 3d is pretty subtle, although "less gratuitous than Beowulf" might be a better phrase. The book is a pretty good indication of how creepy the movie gets. If I had seen it when I was 7, I would have been creeped out and loving it.
