Ok, my wife scheduled our four year old neice's birthday party for Sunday at noon. Forgetting the fact that I won't be able to watch the start of stage 1 in Davis (I live in Davis) because I'll be in the middle of hosting a princess-themed party for a very fashion conscious preschooler, I need to know how bad you think the traffic will be coming up from the Bay Area. Should I advise my guests to not take the freeway into town and only use the roads south of I-80? I live south of I-80 so that's not a problem.

The little princess and her entourage live in Walnut Creek and could easily come up through Rio Vista if need be. Should they do that? And should I give back road directions to the grandparents who are coming up from the east bay?

BTW, as a Davis resident, I think it might actually be cooler to watch my town live on national tv for something other than a stupid toad tunnel.

My sense is that it will be like normal workday traffic. (lack of commuters replaced by TOC fans). Remember that the I-80 corridor from the bay area is always congested. I would allow 3.5 hours from WC Sacramento. You said you are south of I-80, but live in Davis. Where do you want to meet them?

Traffic will not be an issue as long as you avoid downtown Davis. You might have them take Mace instead of Richards. 80 East might slow down between 113 and Richards since it's a bottleneck. Most of the race spectators will have already arrived by the time your party starts.

You should sneak out in the morning to catch the teams in Central park at least. :thumb:

Stick to 80 unless the traffic reports are especially bad. I drive both ways a lot and from Walnut Creek it's really out of the way to go through Rio Vista. I'd be more worried coming home because the Tahoe traffic Sunday will be heavy with the snow coming our way, somewhat mitigated by the holiday on Monday.

Might make sense to cut over from Dixon on the backroads though because of the bottleneck at the 113/80 junction, but once again, I'd only do that if the traffic reports are really bad. I wouldn't expect that.

If you think it will be bad between 113 and richards, you can have them get off at 113 or earlier get on Covell then take take Poleline or Mace into South Davis. Basically circumnavigating downtown.

I'm worried how I'm going to get Downtown for lunch because my parents will be visiting and want to have lunch downtown. Will probably have to find a way to campus, park then walk. Already have a campus permit so I won't have to pay the $6 parking fee.

Free shuttle service from Mondavi parking lot. Also a shuttle from Community park @ F and Covell.

Ooh...that might work, real close to my place there.
