Northern California - riding around a neighborhood for 20+miles

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

today I am going to have to ride around my neighborhood to get a ride in because if i go out and get a flat i wont be able to get a ride, and since it looks like it might rain i dont want to get stranded in the rain. has anyone had any experience riding such long distances around a "track" like oval around your block

I have several circuits in the neighborhood that I'll ride when I'm crunched for time.
Especially when I have 45 mins to kill if I'm waiting to pick my daughter up from school, I'll throw one of the bikes in the back and park close....then ride laps until it's time for her to get out.

When I go on my 5am ride, I do 3-4 laps around my neighborhood; each lap has all right turns and the signals are almost always green.

Get a pump and a patch kit and go wherever and as far as your legs will take you.

I suppose it would be a little more fun to ride around the block for an hour than to ride on an indoor trainer for an hour. Are there any hills in your neighborhood?

Hah... I do that sometimes when I just want to ride around for half an hour or so late at night. I live in a quiet, but well-lit residential area and usually never even see anyone out walking so I don't feel like such a weirdo. Though I'm sure that anyone looking out the window might think it a bit odd.

We have a neighborhood loop that runs 20-30 miles depending on how we do it. It also has about 1000 feet of climbing. But we're never more than about 5 miles from home. I like it lots. We don't do laps, but it is an odd route. We planned it with minimal stoplights. It's a pretty good no- brainer out-the-door ride.

We should pool our funds and buy a house on Old La Honda. A Bikeforums Timeshare, with a "round the neighborhood" loop that will kick your ass in 30 miles. ;)

Heh, well, I live 1 mile away from Old Tunnel Rd. When I don't have much time, I can go on a 45 minute ride and climb 1500 feet. It's fun, though weird!

Or a pump and a tube. Especially if it's raining you don't want to be messing with patches.

Awww, come on! You can always find a spot out of the rain drops to affix a patch or two.

With enuf practice, you can get pretty fast, too.........

My block is "L" shaped and I sometimes take the bike off the trainer at night and cool off by blasting around the block a couple of times. 6 turns in a little over 1/4 mile so I'm blasting around corners faster than cars do... I live in the burbs so everyone thinks I'm the neighborhood psycho.
