Southern California - Need info on Cruisin' Conejo 2009

I am thinking about doing my first organized road ride, hopefully the metric century.

Anyone familiar with the roads that are used for this ride. Does the area have a lot of bike lanes or wide shoulders?

Although I have not done the ride in a few years, it has always been one of my favorite. I have done the 30+, moderate metric, challenging metric and century. Depending on your route, the roads are in good shapes and by and large, not heavily trafficed by cars excepting the last 10 miles or so but there are good bike lanes. You will at times, be doing some country style farm roads and there are a few steep descents (as well as climbs). The scenery is gorgeous (especially through Hidden Valley), the climbs challenging, the boy scouts so cute at all the sags, food and support is good. I would say this is a good first one to consider. Another would be the Cool Breeze in August.

I am assuming you are doing the moderate metric... correct? I would start with that one although it's alittle longer.

I will recommend you are ready for a metric... even the moderate is a challenging ride... but enjoy the scenery. meet people, enjoy the ride.

Cruisin' is a fantastic ride with excellent support. I am a bit biased however since my club (Conejo Valley Cyclists) puts the ride on.

Outstanding ride in my local area. I've done it 5 times, I think, and every course. It's well organized with lots of riders so you barely ever need a route sheet! There is a fair amount of climbing but the roads are good. Disclosures: I live in the Conejo and ride these areas all the time. Like Adam, ("hey, Adam, what's up? ) I belong to CVC. Come on out....it's great fun!

Well you CVC guys thank you for putting on a great ride - it is one of my CA favorites (in order Wildflower, Cool Breeze, Conejo) but I have to say yours has the best sags. The Boy Scouts are just awesome; so are the club members!

Don't forget about the baked goods! If the same lady is still doing the baking it's worth the ride just for that.

Looking forward to this ride. I've also heard that the support is great. This will be my first time doing the Conejo (century). Just recently did the Wildflower century and that was a great ride. I heard it was called the Bunny Hop long before. Is this correct?

These are my local roads (my commute to work is through Hidden Valley) - but I am mostly a mountain biker, just ride the roads to commute - never done a century, or even close - but going to sign up and "attempt" this one in the morning.

What an incredible ride! I loved it! The open areas remind me of home (Iowa/Indiana). Just plain fun! Very well supported. Really amazed me at how few riders overall I saw, but then I did the full century. I'd think it to be bigger than it seemed, but maybe it is still growing.

Did not see BFers. Now to figure out the next ride I'm doing.

Great ride! It was recommended by someone who did it last year ( based mostly on the oatmeal cranberry cookies). I was set to do the century ride but due to injury and persisting pain, I cut it short for the metric century. Unfortunately that course only took me 56 miles. I will do this ride again next year providing I am injury free.

Great ride! I started way late. Missed my group's start time. Doh! But did the century anyway. Had a couple of flats.

All-in-all, I had a great time. Some riders were really cool. I was surprised to see so few riders throughout the ride but then again I had a late start. The scenery is awesome. I'd like to do this one again!

I'm starting to think that BFers need to put something special on so we can recognize each other. There is a Yellowstone group that I have been a part of that does that. They put a sticker on their car so you can recognize one another. Hmmmmm. Ideas? Another thread perhaps?

We went down and did the 68 miler on our tandem...great weather, very bike friendly area, beautiful scenery. I last did this ride in the late 80's...man that area has sure changed (no surprise of course) ..did not recognized anything except the strawberry fields down near Camarillo.

Great event would recommend it to anyone.

We have done that in the past. We have put red stars on our bib numbers and red star "tatoos" on our legs. This gave rise to the red star jerseys that were sold a couple years ago.
Another thing we have done is put our screen names on a little tag on our backs. That's how I met jschen.
