Foo - Need a new monitor

need a new monitor. I'd like to jump to 24"; but my almost new and expensive (to me) GTX 260 would have trouble pushing the native resolution in games. Heck, I was getting serious lag at the 1680x1050 rez that a 22" would have with eye candy turned on in Crysis.

I'm prob going to get a 22. Newegg has 57 to pick from. They also have some 23" monitors. There's an Asus 23.6 which is tempting and not expensive for it's size. I also like the fact that it's a 16:10 instead of the usual 16:9 widescreen.

All those choices have me confused. Btw, I could go a little over $300, but
$350 would be the absolute limit.

It's Crysis. Even today's top of the line hardware still has trouble running it with all the details maxed out.

I got the 22" acer for 150, not a great monitor but for the price, its hard to beat. For editing photo's, i really wish i would have gone with 1080P or higher...

as this is clearly for gaming, I'd recommend either samsung or viewsonic.

Ain't that the truth. Visually the game is terrific, but to get the full effect you need
a bad*ss computer. There are overall 4 levels of eye candy. I am at level 3. There are several choices within a level that you increase or decrease, like the amount of detail in the water. But if I jack even one of those things to level 4, she starts getting laggy. And that's with a hot video card and a E8500.

Crysis is the true test of a gaming machine.

I almost wish for a certification for gaming rigs, like of a machine can pass Crysis at a reasonable (40+ FPS) at level 4, it should have some sort of sticker. Same with lower levels.

Got it for $250 at Costco, but at $280 at Newegg it's still a gonga deal. No lag, color bleeding, or dead pixels, either. My friend's $500+ 24" HP has color bleeding...

I will say that you can put together a good machine that will run Crysis sweetly on a midsize monitor without spending a lot. 4850 prices have dropped a lot, but it's still a nice card, and both AMD and Intel have hot cpus under $200.

Which is good and bad. Good because holy s*** it looks good. Bad because you severly limit your market to those with high end computers. I know, there are lower detailed settings but it's almost not worth it at those levels... (the funny thing is that they still blamed piracy for the low sales numbers) :lol:
