Hi all, newbie here. I was looking at a new Cyclocross bike, what do you guys recommend for @ the $1500 price range?

Kona Jake The Snake. I have the Major Jake and Love IT!!! Don't even get me started on how much I love that bike :). It can do just about anything and fits me perfectly.

If you are willing to go used (like I did), you can even pick up a Major Jake for around $1,000. Mine was $1,000 on ebay and came with Dura Ace shifters/cranks and Ultegra Ders.

I highly recommend used if you can find a relatively risk free deal. I bought mine from a bike shop on ebay.

$960 isn't that bad.

To me it is...when you consider what kind of a used bike $1,000 will buy you. For me the goal is to get as much bike as I can. That being said, one of the first things I did after buying my Major Jake was to put Tiagra shifters on it since Dura Ace on a cross bike did not make sense to me.

I agree. I bought a couple months old Specialized Tricross Comp for $900. That's a lot of bike for that figure.

I picked up a Bianchi Axis from Jenson.. $939. I did search ebay for a month or so.. didnt see anything in my size or that I wanted. I am happy. I didnt want a surly either.

I thought the goal for everyone was to get as much bike as they can. But, the OP didn't ask about used bikes. He was very specific in saying NEW.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm planning on normal road and rail trail riding, but I don't want to buy something cheap.

Sounds like there's a lot of good bikes out there.
