Northern California - Anyone riding tomorrow?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Looks like a break in weather from 11am - 5pm. Go buy your See's candies today for Vday.

I'd like to ride tomorrow. Did you have any particular route in mind?
Maybe a 40-50 miler (max) so that if it does rain we aren't caught-out somewhere in Timbuktu...
The sun's actually out right now and I just got back from a quickie (!) 15 miler. Hedging here just in case there is no break in the weather tomorrow. Every little bit counts. :D

Unless it pouring...doing the PV ride Sat & Sun, unless it pouring.
Yeah something like that mellum. Probably over to the usual climbs, King's and Old La Honda or perhaps farther south to HW 9. Depends on who else wants to show up.
I need to stop checking this forum until I can join in again. It's depressing!
How bad is your knee? I still have a whack back and that's a fact Jack.
Don't know, depends when the roads dry, so don't want to commit to a time. Probably just do a solo out to Dublin/San Ramon via Palomares.

I am up for a late morning (give or take depending on the weather) ride in the Kings Mtn./Old La Honda/Canada/Page Mill vicinity.

Not sure yet, maybe a Cal Train station? Ben, Marco, Ron???

I think Ron's headed for Sacto tonight.

It's fine to walk around, but hurts immediately when I try to ride. I finally saw my doctor and got the Patello-Femoral syndrome diagnosis. So that's confirmed. I have a physical therapy session March 2nd, but I'm pretty sure they will show me the same exercises I have read about and have been doing since this all started.
I need a cartilage transplant or something. Who knows really. I should take up swimming or get one of those recumbants with a hand-crank.

My plans for the extended president's/valentine's day weekend are still up in the air. Not sure if it will work out but I have this inkling to ride up to Skyline early tomorrow morning in search of snow ...

A good meeting place is behind the Pioneer Hotel at 84 and Whiskey Hill Rd. (near Canada) in Woodside. It looks like the driest period is supposed to be between noon and 4 pm. We could tentatively plan to meet around 11 or 11:30 if that seems like a good idea. Perhaps final details can be worked out in the morning pending updated weather reports. It may be clear and we can start earlier.

Hope the rehab works out well for you - taking time off is tough, but it's worth doing it right. Hopefully a new bike fit might fix the route cause?
I'm hoping to sneak out for a couple of hours some time tomorrow - but don't know when. I was originally planning a Tam ride with a friend, but a rain check is the order of the day.

Chris,
Maybe check if you are over/under pronating. They sell wedged shaped shims for your cleats to correct for that. I think Specialized makes some.
Just an idea.

Weather looks relatively good. Can we (Bostic, melllum, taxi777) meet at 10:30at the Pioneer Hotel? Can everyone be there then? Let me know or let us know the time you can make it there.

along the lines of what Marco is saying
11am is probably a better time for me to meet there. Figure an hour to ride over Sunnyvale.

I had this done as part of my fit to correct overpronation in my right foot, although my shims went underneath the insole of the shoe. I could definitely feel the difference.

I'd have to leave now and the weather looks too sketchy, so I'll probably just stay local or hit the trainer. I knew we'd be paying for all that good weather we had in January : (

Probably just Monday and Tuesday for me.
Monday = From home, to Woodside, up Kings, Down to steep part of Tunitas, watch race... back up down Kings, Crestview on the way home, etc..
Tuesday = Ride up Sierra, down Felter, weather dependent if we will ride more the that (Calaveras, etc).

How far up was the snow? 2k feet? 3 k feet?
I went for a nice easy ride and got caught in a little rain, but no biggie. I do wish I had the fender off of my commuter though...
It rained. A lot. We climbed OLH, down 84, Tripp, up King's. Rain started. Pouring rain all the way down. Vicious winds all the way back to Sunnyvale.

If I had ridden today I woulda done a Calaveras loop, since I kept seeing dark grey clouds to the west over the coastal range. Still zero rain in Santa Clara all day today, but maybe a bit windy.
I'm thinking of shooting to do the Triple Crown this year so I want to get some training in so I can make an early double (Solvang or the Wine Country one in early April)... that way I'll be able to judge my ability to do another 2 doubles.

3000 ft. They had the Juniper gate closed but the Junction ranger said it would be OK to ride around. Juniper parking lot was packed with SUVs and most people hiked up another mile or so.

We had fun though; definitely better than being cooped-up at home. Plus the obligatory stop at the Woodside Bakery took the edge off the cold - somewhat.
Thanks for coming out Ramon and Chris. :thumb:
I took the kids out on the Xtracycle today. Just uploaded the data from the Garmin. 6.8 mph average, 4.8 miles, 20ft total elevation gain. Hope you guys can keep up!!!

HTFU award of the week goes to DiabloScott by quite some margin.
I timed my day all wrong, and was just suiting up when the rain started. Still, got some good kid time in, and was able to keep an eye on the Prologue in the afternoon. It's going to be a fascinating race with so much talent this year. :thumb:

I did get out for a ride but close enough to scurry home if the rain came, which it did. It was my first time riding my new Centurion in fixed mode. I ran into some fixed gear club on the Embarcadero doing an Ally Cat race, but didn't join them....sorry to miss you guys ride though.

Yeah it was a good ride, I am glad we did it. There was just a little light rain up near the top of Old La Honda other than the heavier stuff all the way down Kings Mtn. All the way down...
We missed you Pete but the travel wouldn't have been worth it for you so good call.

I was able to get in 2 races in San Jose today with just a brief shower during the 2nd race.

Pizza Man, congrats on the win! I watched quite a bit of the 35+/45+ this morning and kept hearing the announcer saying your name (not "Pizza Man" though ).

Had a lovely ride this morning. Rode from home down to Old Sac to meet some fellow NorCal'ers and then rode down toward Clarksburg and back before watching the Prologue. Fun time and no rain, but lots of wind. Ya'll should have come out this way today!

A buddy and I were joking about doing Diablo this weekend when we saw the snow. Didn't realize people are crazy enough to actually do it o_O. I've yet to climb Diablo but I think I'll wait until the snow melts for my attempt :D

Dang, you guys are nuts. Luckily, it didn't rain during the Prologue. Hey, but then again, I'll be out there in the wind and rain.
melissam and I went on our second TNT Death Ride team ride yesterday, starting from St. Helena up 128 to Chiles-Pope Valley Rd and Ink Grade.
It was cold and it rained a good part of the morning. :p Some poor folks were drenched and shivering badly by the end of the ride.
I really lucked out with what I wore. I had layered two longsleeved lightweight wool baselayers under my TNT jersey (good thing it's a bit too large for me), and over that I had a Canari rainjacket, similar to a Showers Pass, that worked like a champ. I also wore wool tights over my knickers, and two pair of lightweight wool socks, w toe covers over my shoes.
Even thought I was completely drenched from my hips down by the time we finished (the water was squooshing out of my shoes as I walked :p) the wool managed to keep me reasonably warm. Yay wool. :thumb:
Oh and to top of my ensemble for maximum dorkitude I wore a plastic shower cap over my helmet. But my head stayed warm & dry.
