ok.. i've been wanting a Hardrock Sport in Yellow and in size 17" frame. but thus far none of the LBS around here has it. they all say it's backordered and may be getting some in later, but don't know when. i would like to place an order for it.. but don't wanna make the same mistake as last time when i bought my sirrus... which i later found out another LBS sells it for $50 cheaper.

i'm kinda on a budget... keeping the bike under $300 before tax. i've checked out the trek 4300.. didn't like it, giant boulder se & marin... didn't like them either. is there other brand of bike that is uner $300 that is comparable to the hardrock sport?

anyone here that owns a LBS knows when specialized is shipping the 17" frame?

dude, break out the phone book and find the other Specialized dealers in the Bay Area. I'm sure there are tons with an hours drive. Get on the phone and call around to see who has one in stock. A 17" frame is pretty common. There MUST be someone with it in stock!

but the guy lives in Vancouver and I live near Toronto... and shipping is going to cost me like $50-$100 but STILL!

all of you can now praise me :p

i called up at least 7 shops within 25 mile radius. none of them has it. the only 17 they have is a girl's bike. plus i'm looking for the yellow one instead of the dream silver.

Call NOW!!! Specialized has a FEW in right now as I type this... we ordered as many as we possibly could today so act really fast and tell your LBS to call even if they say they can't get anymore. This is it until like late May.

seely, yes i've already told them to call. the manager there will call me in the morning after they check with specialized. also, i'm going to try check with supergo as well, because they said they were going to get some in as well. i'm just hoping they will have yellow. seely... what would be a good price that i can get the hardrock sport for? i know it's around $299.. but i was wondering if there is another price that they may sell it for? i'm new to negociating.. so i'm hoping you can give me some insider info. thanks.

If you're special ordering, you'll probably pay full MSRP!

If you're cool and polite and it's a decent shop, you could ask them to throw in a waterbottle and cage.

If they have a T-shirt with the shop name on it, buy it as a gesture on your part to advertise for them!

yeah the last time i bought my sirrus from The Off Ramp, the manager Chris gave me a specialized big mouth water bottle with cage & kick stand. then i got other discounts on a wireless computer and helmet. i am just hoping that this time they will give me a good deal cuz when i bought my sirrus, supergo was selling the same model for $450, which is $50 less then what i paid for. so this time, i'm going to have to get him to hook me up!

woooohoooo... couldn't sleep at all last night because i was waiting for Chris from my LBS to call. he just called to let me know that the yellow 17" hardrock sport will be in stock next week! there will be one with my name on it... wooohoooo!!! can't wait.. i just love the light pedalling feel of that bike.. plus the frame is nearly bomb-proof.. so i don't have to worry too much about it crapping out on me. can't wait!!! especially with the bright yellow... now those drivers will be able to see me better!!! hehe :d

thanks for everyone's help!!!

$299 is actually a really good price, I don't think they can go any lower unless they have some sorta special deal with Specialized. MSRP on it is $329 and we sell most of them at that or close to it! The Hardrock Sport is probably our hottest selling bike, at that price range it has far better components than anything Trek or GF is offering.

ruirui, I know what you mean about waiting.

My new frame comes via UPS tomorrow and I won't have time to turn a wrench on it until next weekend! I've been invited to hit some trails in WNC this weekend. I'm due for a roadtrip, but I'd love to have my new frame ready. Maybe I'll stay up late all next week!

ok.. now i'm in a big dilema now. my lbs just told me that the hardrock sport is for $299 and the rockhopper is $399. the rockhopper seems to have better parts and fork. what should i do???

which one would you choose???
Rockhopper-Dream (http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=6013&JServSessionIdroot=76r3rtx8ax.j27002) vs. Hardrock Sport-Dream (http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=5970&JServSessionIdroot=76r3rtx8ax.j27002)

please enlighten me... i'm stomped! both of them seem to be good deals. are both frames equal? i'm going to do some trails and small jumps here and there.

 rui

The Manitou fork is a wash, its really no better than the RST. Cranks are the same as I recall, and the drivetrain goes from Alivio to Deore, not a big leap. I think there is a 2+/-lbs difference between the two in favor of the Rockhopper. Honestly I think at $399 the Rockhopper isn't much better than the HR Sport since you are still getting an 8spd setup with either bike, and entry level components. The Hardrock overall is a beefier frame than the Rockhopper and the geometry is much better suited for jumping/aggressive use. Personally I prefer a more XC oriented geometry, like the Rockhopper for doing trails, but some people like the slacker more aggressive angles like the Hardrock.

humm.. in that case.. rockhopper seems to be a better choice for me then.
