i want to replace my huge alloy specialized mobius stem (deemed the "brick") with an aluminum race face with less rise. i havent measured, but i think that its obvious that the race face (prodigy) has a shorter stack height, so my question is if i replace it myself, will i have to get the steer tube cut? it shouldnt matter if the new stem has a little shorter stack height should it? anyway, just curious and wanted to find out if i cut replace it myself before i buy one

if its shorter stack height, you can just get some spacers to put on the steerer tube.

What raceface stem are you looking at? Diabolus, Deus or Evolve?

race face prodigy. i might get it from price point for $30. i've looked at the eastons and they seem over priced. i wouldn't mind finding a thomson for $30 though... yeah right.

well, i decided to go with an older (2003?) RF Prodigy 110mm, 10 deg rise stem from nashbar for $19.99. i also have a EA70 aluminum flat bar coming along with some 2.1 Fire XC Pros!

The raceface prodigy is cheaper at Nashbar, right now it is $20.00

More comfortable position etc.

It all really depends on you and the current size of your bike. Your reach, height, size of bike all comes into play when you wanna find the most comfortable. My stem is a 110mm with 0 degrees of rise. Other people are comfortable with a 50mm stem with 15 degrees of rise.

Its all up to you.

Nice one. I also swapped my speicalized stem. Its gave my 15 degrees of rise. Too muhc of an upright position.
