This guy, a head hunter that got me a couple of jobs when I was a contractor, keeps calling me about a job. He's been trying to convince me that according to my experience/resume, I would be a perfect match for this position. Is your usual linux+unix enviroment, with more linux than unix, and with the usual scripting languages... all pretty standard.

From what I've read, this is a small (under 100 employees) and they seem to like linux and open source as a way to save operating expenses. This is good, I like linux more than unix. But it also tells me that they might be cheap. Either way, the head hunter didn't gave me any pointers about how much salary I should ask.

I'm thinking that about 65k would be OK? Is it kinda low? or kinda hi? This is in FL btw.

Depends on your experience and qualifications. $65K is the going rate for fresh out-of-college graduates from decent schools at financial companies or similar. I've heard of some stellar grads fetching $80K right off-the-bat for MIS/IT related work, but that's highly dependent on where you go and how much work you're willing to do.

Shop around, but keep the offer fresh on your mind. It's not bad.

It might be a better idea to check out the job before you decide what it's worth. Your actual responsibilities, stability, benefits, flexibility, environment, etc count for a lot.

There are plenty of great IT jobs that pay low as well as lousy ones that pay high. If this is something you might be interested in and you don't have a decent job now, you'd be nuts not to follow up.

That's a lot more than I was expecting. I'm an MIS major here. Hell, a BS in Computer Engineering will fetch you maybe $50 - 55k out of college here.

Remember that location matters. $65k in New York City or the Valley is quite a bit different than $65k in (say) the midwest. Adjust accordingly.
