I swear something happened to Time itself while I was commuting home today.

Here's the deal: when my commutes only take 40-45 minutes, I'm usually wheezing like Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang. If I take it easy and take in the scenery, the ride usually takes on the order of 55 minutes.

So today, I took the ride veeeery easy so I could take in the scenery, enjoy the ever earlier sunrise, be one with my pedals and not struggle to stand up once I got home and out of the saddle. I get home and check my stopwatch, my GPS, and my bicycle computer and they all agree that the ride only took 43 minutes yet here I am just riding along, barely ever out of breath like I grew up in the bike lanes of Copenhagen.

It was the most bizarre feeling for me, someone who has, to my recollection, never had a workout as easy as the one I had this morning.

This is why Saturday morning and Sunday morning are my favorite times to commute.

Has anyone else ever experienced a Time Warp like that?

I've experienced something similar as that while riding. I think you just reach a point where you really aren't thinking about things and you sort of "zone out" and you become much more relaxed in the situation. When you get home, just as you did, you realize your ride time was faster and much more enjoyable than focusing on all the variables such as speed, distance, etc, etc.

It's definitely a nice feeling. I've experienced it with other tasks as well, such as painting and drawing.

Good job!

It could be your fitness "jumped" to a new level. It's happened to me, too. At one point, I was used to riding at an average pace of 15mph, when all of a sudden, I "jumped" to 17mph without realizing it.

Hopefully, you can replicate it. :)

Yes, it's happened to me. Usually when I don't have a trip computer!

Good things can happen when you take your eyes off the equipment and just have fun.

Happens to me on the fixed gear all the time. I don't have a computer on it and just fall into a cadence and into the zone where I'm reac ting to patterns around me and breathing. I'll be carrying that over to the road bike as well, just gear/cadence and not even look at the computer.

You were in "the zone" kinda like Jordan and Tiger. I definately have times when i get in the zone while riding. I'm going fast, feeling great, and it all feels effortless.

I think I have had a jump in fitness, recently.

Moreso, I've gotten fed up with my bike computer because it doesn't consistently receive the wireless signal from the sensor. I haven't bothered to take the thing off of the bike.

I hang my GPS on my pannier so I can't see it. And, finally, my watch has a function where I can punch a button to record the time; I punch the time at the start and at the end and I calculate the elapsed time later.
