There may be superlatives one could choose to describe Cancellera's prolog victory yesterday, but 'stunning' isn't the one that comes to mind.

Not stunned at all. I figured he would be 1st. I was more stunned by Cavendish.

I was more stunned by Levi's performance.

Cavendish was the stunner. Levi and G. Hincapie rode great. Lance's performance was very encouraging. I was hoping for top 20, he made the top 10, he's a better TT guy for longer distances. Lance could give those guys trouble in the longer TT. God help them.

Only Ullrich in his best day could compete against Armstrong in the long TT's. If this was a long TT, Lance would have gotten 1st or 2nd.

Lance is going to get top 10 in this Tour. Hopefully top 5.

Might want to check some of the past prologue results.

The only thing I am shocked by is Tom Peterson missing his start time by over a minute, I would of thought that a ProTour team would not let this happen.

Of course Landis was late for his TT start in the TdF I think.

Especially now that he doesn't have to deal with all the pesky drug testing that was breaking his bank account. :roflmao2:

No, I am a little surprised that he abandoned today at the feed zone.

I had picked Hushovd, but was not stunned at all by Cancellara nor Leipheimer. Surprised a bit and very pleased to see Zabriskie back on top of his game. Short one like that isn't his strongest suit.

Actually, Lance gets tested more in a month than you and all your team mates will ever be tested in your entire pathetic life. He passes them all.

Can you even pass the local DPW Proficiency Test?

It's not about me. I haven't been in the media for the last 6 months talking about how I was going to have the most extensive testing in the world to prove once and for all that I am not a cheat. A year of that testing costs less to Lance than a Pizza does to you or me.

Delgado managed the same trick in the Tour in '89.

I'm only stunned by the fact they still have camera problems in bad weather. The Europeans seem to have this part down pat.

Do they add the time they are late to their TT time? How does that work?

yes, the clock starts when it's time for you to go whether you are there or not.

This is winter in Nocal, the rains (and the snows in the mtns) can be epic. In fact they were saying the snow levels were as low as 2,000 ft, which might impact the mountains stages later this week. They rarely get rain that intense in the summer in the TdF. Precip that heavy precludes helicopter operations and really F's up the camera signals. On the few occasions on the TdF where they have experienced such heavy rain the choppers were grounded and the m/c TV signals were choppy just like today.

I believe the Grand Tours still have video via motorcycle cameras during rain/fog.

I was initially surprisesd by the Velonews headline: "Cancelara Stuns Peloton" or some such. Certainly, his win couldn't have stunned anyone since he was picked by many to win, AGAIN.

The "STUNNING" that I think is referred to is the margain of victory. He put three seconds into the best pro cyclists in the world over a short course that could be completed in 4 and 1/2 minutes. After Levi, there were about a dozen guys that were mere hundreths of seconds apart.

The gap is stunning, even by the big Swissie's standards.

When Cancellera pulled out of the race the next day, he did so after he started riding and he VOMITED on the bike. Talk about HTFU.

I recall several well known cyclists finishing grand tour stages with poop running down their legs. I say htfu, he clearly didn't want it enough.
