I have once again cracked my Giant carbon TCR frame same place as last time. My question is for any LBS people or anyone who might have an answer. I don't want to deal with my Giant frame, 2x cracking in less than a year is too much for me. Do you think it is possible to get my frame replaced by Giant then have the LBS give me what it is worth and upgrade to something else like a Litespeed? I am going tomorrow to talk talk to the owner he is usually in on Sundays. Just wondered if anyone heard of such a crazy idea.

Even if they agree to a swap, don't be surprised if he doesn't give you face value for your "trade-in." In fact, I would go in to the conversation prepared to offer .80 on the dollar. Maybe then he/she will do it.

I've worked retail for over 30 years (not Biking industry)..... if I had a customer that had 2 failures of any high ticket item I would be surprised if they accepted a third. Be nice, but be firm. Go at it like you have a problem and they (LBS) are not at fault but can they help? If they are worth their salt they will have some ideas and suggestions. If Giant agrees to give you a new frame, I really don't see why the LBS wouldn't give you full credit towards another frame. (Not complete bike. Your components are used.)

Yes I was only looking for frame and fork I would just swap all my components over. Now I wonder if they will do it. I understand it's not there fault they did get me the last replacement pretty fast 2 weeks only. I am kind of nervous about asking them. I know I can sell the new frame and fork on Ebay for around a $1000 but I was looking at it from a shorter turn around and maybe getting a little bit more money from them since they could turn around and sell it as new.

I agree with Grampy, up to a point. It depends if the LBS is owner-operated or part of a chain. If it is owner-operator, his advice is perfect. If it is part of a chain, then you can be more aggressive. Demand satisfaction, in other words. And don't go in thinking you'll settle for .80 on the dollar. Get full value. The problem is Giant, not the LBS, so make sure the owner knows your problem is with Giant. If the LBS can't or wan't do anything, ask for the regional GIant representative. Get his phone number, mailing address, e-mail address, and, if he is local, demand to see him face to face.
The replacement is a brand new frame so they can easily sell a TCR frame. If you want to upgrade to a Litespeed or whatever(I don't blame you after 2 failures) there should be no problem.
It would be good for the bike shop too. They are actually selling 2 frames (your warranty TCR and a Litespeed) off your situation. That is important because shops get credit from bike companies for moving quantity of inventory- no matter the actual sale price.
Good luck... or should I say BETTER luck!
