General Cycling Discussion - Last Minute Bad Luck

Ever had last minute bad luck?

I was just getting my gear together and doing maintenance on my bike for the Harmonie Hundred tomorrow. The last thing to do before showering and going to bed was to just air up the tires just in case I forget to in the morning. I'm pumping up the 2nd tire and "POOF" air starts blowing out around the thumblock. I guess I should just pump it up with my minipump but I going to see if Wally World has a pump for presta. Couldn't be any less quality than this Nasbar model than went kapoop.
I'm glad I didn't wait until I got to the event to pump em up! :D

I've been building this Lemond Maillot Jaune for weeks, one part at a time. I made it a goal to have it done for this mornings 7 am event, which required about 3 hours of work last night cabling the thing up and getting it adjusted. Well 3 turned into 6 and it was midnight when I took my first test ride. "POOF" went the rear tube for no apparent reason. Ok, change the tube and try again... "POOF" goes another. I went through 3 tubes before I finally got the seating correct. It was 2 am before I finished. I was hating life thinking I was being tripped up by a series of self induced pinch flats.

So yes, I hear ya' brother.

Good news is the bike rode very sweet and was much closer to optimal than anticipated.

Oh! I've had all kinds of tire fun today. First I was going to ride my tourbike in case it rains tomorrow. I bought some new tires back in October and just left them tied up with the twist ties still on them. Today I decided to put them on. The tire I put on the back woobles like all hell. I took it apart 3 times and moved the tube around and it still does it. So I switched to my roadbike and the last thing this pump blows out.
Target saved the day anyway. Walmart only had one style of pump with no gauge. Plastic adapter for presta. Thats when I realized I don't have a tire gauge for presta,just the one on my pumps. Target had a so-so dualhead Schwinn. It's a little harder to pump but a least I ready to GO. Wander Indiana...Wander

Totally off topic, but I see you're in Marion. We have a lakehouse on Lake of Egypt and I have been wanting to do some roadrides around there with the beautiful scenery. Are there any events coming up that I could maybe hit in May/June as I pass through on my way from/to school? Also will a double be doable on the hills there?

Wow thats perfect... I was looking to head back down to school at the end of June. Even if I have to come from school here its only an 8hr drive so I'll hopefully make it. Worried about the double chainring though :eek:
