I've seen the paved path when I drive through it but I have yet to see any people on it. Is it open yet? It looks like it's a part of the Cottonwood trail system and like most MUP websites it's not up to date and not all that helpful.
Has anyone here ridden it yet? Details if you have them please

that link is dated 01/23/09, making me think it is still not connected, but will be this year.

They built it unconnected when they did the High 5. There's been some old posts on it, you may can fetch 'em up on search. I don't know what the status was of the connecting trails, i thought it was going to be several years.
They had the ground breaking on teh cottonwood trail in late Jan that is the connection to that high 5 underpass

A transportation official pointed out that the High Five is actually the High Six: a traditional five-stack highway interchange (main lanes E/W, main lanes N/S, access roads, two sets of flyovers) plus the path.

Info is all very sketchy. I'm riding under that sucker this weekend regardless of if it's connected or not. I can see the path and I'm gonna ride it!
I'll update everyone afterwards.

I'll update everyone afterwards.
Remember, without photos it didn't happen!

No doubt. I'm taking a really crappy camera so no promises on the quality but yeah I'll document our ride.

It's easy to get to. Not much to see though. Homeless live under Central and poop on the path under Central. Watch out.
Easiest way to get there is to right up Schroeder from the White Rock Creek Trail. When Schroeder dead ends into LBJ, ride through the grass, down the hill, across the service road bridge to the path.

I was there, I'll post pictures later. As mentioned you have to go down a grass embankment to get there on the SE portion. I would not suggest going alone.

Cool....What is the bike with the full chaincase?

That's my buddy's Electra Amsterdam Classic 3i. It rocks. He's around here somewhere.

...which actually doesn't have a full chaincase, merely a chain guard cleverly styled to look like a chain case. It's completely open on the side toward the tire.

Sweet bikes, scary place to ride. I don't know... seems more sketchy than the Katy Trail at midnight.

It's not scary down there if you have a Ruger SP101 .357 magnum revolver, a speed-loader and an Electrabike Amsterdam Classic 3!
And, of course, my good friend, Mr. C.

When I went along that section of trail last summer, the section under LBJ was perfect. Very clean, like someone swept it with a broom everyday. It was really neat looking at the murals and frescos built into the walls.
But.....
Under Central Expressway were some hobos. The trail was covered with human feces. Like 100 different dumps. Maybe more. Spread out all over the place. I never rode to the end I turned around when I saw all the feces and toilet paper ahead, gagged, then got out of there.
The worst part was that as I was leaving, some church group was bringing food to the homeless that live under there. I asked them how often they feed the hobos and they said everyday. I told them that the hobos were crapping all over the place and they should make the hobos clean up the mess before they feed them again. This angered the church people. I was disgusted with them and the homeless. Weird thing was, the church people crossed the creek on foot, getting their feet wet to deliver the food. Odd.

The problem that you describe with the homeless under the bridge is the typical sort of problem that occurs when well-intentioned idiots get involved in providing social services. Those church people would be better off donating those resources to a shelter that has faciltities in place, such as a toilet.
However, once the high five trail is hooked into a network of trails, and people (such as law enforcement) are riding it daily, the presence of those riders, and their complaints, will probably solve most of those types of problems........

Can someone show [on a map] or describe where this high-five trail is? The high-five is a pretty big place...
I live near the lake, and don't make it up that way very much. I did drive that way yesterday [staying on 75] and I am just not all that clear on where the actual trail is.
I got a Dallas bike map from REI, that was made in the early 90s or so, but it doesn't have the Katy Trail and some of the newer stuff on it.

I hope this will help you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Five_Interchange. Some info. on the high 5. Also, I have been reading something about the new 635 construction and charging a $7.50 toll fee. Part of 635 will become a tunnel. I use to travel over 635 on a commute to Plano and at 6:30 in the morning, would laugh at all the headlights and taillight of the traffic jams. No car for me!!
Here is some more on the cottonwood trail. http://www.cottonwoodtrail.org/

The path follows the creek that runs under 635 on the East side of Central, and then veers under Central. So it goes north/south and then east to west. If you use Google maps you can see the blue line that represents the creek. Switch to satellite view and you can see the actual path. Again, it runs parallel to Central under 635 and then veers left (west) under central.
The easiest way to see it from your car is drive north on central and look on the right hand side, or drive west on 635 and look on the right hand side. It's between central and TI.
And as Hubbard said riding with a friend is probably the best bet. We saw a lone bike rider who split when he saw us. We did not see any hobos when we were there but I'm sure it's inviting for the homeless.
