This is a long shot but i saw a set of classic/vintage bars on a bike in a shop on a 1990's ish bike. i will try and describe tehm but they are the most unique things i have ever seen. they were a drop bar/ aero bar combination. The trick is that they weren't two pieces. the bar left the step and just made one big giant curving loop until it got out to the aero position. this is vague and i realize that. and the bars are relics, i am sure. my curiosity is killing me though on what they were. please help. thanks

Some of the old school aerobars were one piece units geared more towards trying to be aero then anything else.

they were absolutely those second ones. may i may have to get a set just for fun. I am doing my first tri./ sprint try for a charity here in town and my friend who was with me when i saw them thinks i should scrap the idea of using my nicer road bike and those a set of those on my track set up and do the thing fixed just for fun. now i am considering it. and if the governing laws won't let me do it fixed then i will throw on a single speed wheel.

thanks man. now i am excited about these old bars!

Sounds like your talking about the Scott DH bars (the 2nd photo in bidaci's post). The "DH" is for "downhill" since they put the rider in a position like a downhill skier's. They first came out in 1987.
