Well I did better this month after a sorry start to 2004 with an illness that knocked me out of my first century plus a family emergency that greatly reduced my riding for a spell. How'd every one else do?
April - 589.7 miles
2004 YTD - 1330.3

201... I wish I had the time to ride 500 miles in a month.. hehe... Mileage will start picking up drastically here fairly soon...
April - about 500 miles. YTD - about 1800. Weather is getting better so numbers should be going up.
55/Rad
yeah, I came up with 201.38 this month which is horrible (sickness, weather, houseguest, blah blah)
did better than that in two weeks during march
my year to date is somewhere around 750, changed my computer in february so I don't have the exact numbers.
I too hope my mileage will be picking up drastically

There are about 35 bike forum members who record their mileage on activebody.org. Even if you don't want to plug your miles in every ride, you can still enter them once a week. If you cheat, you only cheat yourself.

Total of 804 since April 1. 774 on my new bike, but I'm still hoping to get 1000 in May since school sports are ending.
1000km for April with 10,000m of climbing. YTD 3,700km/45,000m of climbing. My best start to a year yet. A mate has just passed 9000km for the year, bastard.:D

Wow. Reading all this is frustrating  . In Montreal, it's only starting to get warm. Last Sunday, rode 30 minutes to come back home with blue toes! I got to ride 120 miles in April, which is not that bad considering that a one hour ride had me frozen for two hours when back home.
Makes me wonder how we can live here and like it. But we like it... Spring is so impressive when everything that takes two months to do in the southern USA takes place in two weeks. At least you don't have that (please let me live with that pride... ;) )

You Aussies are cheating!!! These poor buggers have just come out of the Northern winter :D
I did 1758.6 km (1092.74 miles). No big rides; I only missed one day. Mmmmm...Southern Hemisphere. :D
I don't know how they ride in the snow. If it gets below 10 degrees celsius (~50F), I can only last about 1.5 hours.
556 in April.... and 2111 YTD.
I wish I could do more!

I agree with that. Yesterday, for the first time ever, I pulled out of a 100km ride at the half way point. It was an organised ride that started from my home town. After 50km I decided to stop at the halfway-point, which is also the start-finish. I got off and just couldn't get motivated to continue. It was 9ºC and rained for the first 15km, enough to get wet and stay wet for the duration. I thought stuff this, and rode the 1km home for a nice hot shower and central heating.

Usually I do the most riding in May..First week of this past April, I was away in Michigan for family concerns.. April total=468. Best month so far January at 532. Years total so far=1923 miles.
If I had been here all four weeks, hoped I would have gotten in over 600 miles.

If it was all road bike it would be higher, but I mountain bike also.
Congratulations, everybody, with your readings! Seems that 2004 is going to be a productive year for us.
I have clocked a modest 3,500km/2,175m so far (2004).
I needed more ODO, but lots of time went into working on our 'new' house (and, of course, the 'regular job').

I've done 1500 km with studded snow tires YTD and 480 km in April. Now spring is here and I just changed to summer tires two weeks ago. Have also been to China, Malaysia, Singapore, Middle East, Sweden, Holland, Germany, USA and the UK so far this year, so there is limited time to sit in the saddle. Gotta go somewhere to escape the dark winters here up north.

To make you all feel better...
I like in a pretty nice climate, so no excusees there.
April - 175. YTD - 630
One day I won't have to work so much... but I'll probably barely be able to walk, let alone ride, then.

My riding year is about to slow down because of heat and rain. No riding today because of rain, and will have it almost every afternoon until November. April was a good month with 754 miles, and from memory around 2,400 for the year. Summer such big time in south FL.

I've just come out of a Queensland summer. Personally I find it easier now that things are cooling off a little. I should remind you that I have already ridden three imperial centuries this year in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees C. Heck, even the night time temperatures up here regularly clear 30 C.

I don't know how you do it. I couldn't live in NSW, let alone Queensland. Melbourne is just perfect....well, except for Saturday, when it was 10 degrees and raining.
If I do a super hard ride in temperatures over 20C I blow a head gasket!!

I notice you carry a high avg speed on activebody, im a cat 2 racer and don't have speeds that high over that period of time. also i lived in mich where the hills you climb? mich is flatlander state.

pacesetter, I stopped adding time. It is too much info to remember when I get through riding. I am not a racer. I usually ride between 17-20 mph. I do training rides for new riders, and have been riding with my husband who now has about 200 miles for the year and I cycle when my daughter rollerblades. Because I am interested in the mileage only, and the average includes rides with a lot of junk miles, the average speed is a pile of poo. So....I stopped adding time. Now it looks like I am fast, I feel better. If I added all the slow, really slow times, it would look like I ride at 12 mph. Both are inaccurate, and entering no time is easier.
As for hills, I go on bike tours. I was just riding in CA, and I have been in northern Georgia, Texas Hell Week in Texas Hill country (Blue mountains) and the nasty hills of SE Ohio this year. I don't know where you lived in Michigan, but AA area by Barton Hills and the Northville Area and Kensington (road not bike path) have small hills, maybe 1/2 mile long. I only use my altimeter when I am on tour or specifically hill training. Where did you live in Michigan? Were you a cyclist then? I didn't think we had hills either till I started to ride. I rode some hills in CA a few days ago, they seemed easier than the glacial short steep hills in Michigan. There is a 200 kil ride with almost 11,000 feet of climbing in Wisconsin. (Another glacial state like Michigan). I rode in Colorado last year on Pedal to the Peaks with about 25,000 of climbing in one week. I'd say the short hills of Michigan and Iowa and Ohio and Indiana are much more difficult than a 5-6% climb for 20 miles. Good luck on your racing, sorry if I misled you.

High temperatures on their own aren't really a big problem. High humidity is another matter altogether.
