Sorry, the search feature is not working for some reason, anyway does anyone have a good recipe for some homemade power/protein bars? Preferrably with nutritional info but if not I'll still take the recipe.

Thanks!

1.5 c rolled oats
1 c puffed brown rice
.5 c flax meal
.5 c soy protein powder
.5 c agave nectar
.5 c brown rice syrup
.5 c date paste (basically, grind up some dates in a food processor with a bit of water/syrupy liquid/whatever you have on hand)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract (if you want an almond flavor, if not, omit)
1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350.

Toast oats, puffed rice, and flax for a couple minutes. Add to mixing bowl with protein powder.

Heat up agave nectar and brown rice syrup until foaming. Turn off heat, add date/fig paste. Turn heat back on low, mix until combined. Add vanilla, almond extract, and cinnamon.

Pour wet mix into dry, mix well.

Spread into a glass baking dish sprayed with cooking oil. Press down well with spatula covered with wax paper.

Put in the oven for a few minutes, just to solidify them a bit. Remove and let cool. Score into nine equal bars, wrap. Store in freezer or fridge.

I think they come out to something like 250 calories each, I don't remember the exact number. It's pretty easy to figure this out for yourself.

Also, if you're into something more calorically rich, substitute the date paste for chunky peanut butter... puts the bars at something like 400 calories each.

Sounds delicious, thanks a lot. Question, since you say store in fridge/freezer, is it ok to bring on rides of say 4 or 5 hours?

First google result for "homemade power bar"

And for when the forum search isn't working, try this:

Yeah, they don't disintegrate or anything, just get a little bit more mushy. The longest I've taken them out for is a little under three hours (in San Francisco weather), and they held up fine.

Also, apparently Alton Brown's energy bar recipe is very good. I eat almost-vegan (I drink whey protein drinks), and his recipe has eggs in it.

I've tried a couple of recipes in which you bake the bars, but they always come out much too crumbly for me. The latest I've tried is at the link below. It's a no-cook recipe that ought to become less crumbly with some experimentation, but I haven't gotten there yet.

If anyone has a recipe with the chewy consistency of a clif bar, I'd love to see it. I may try the one arexjay posted, though it contains several ingredients I wouldn't use for anything else.

The recipe I use, when made with peanut butter (and honey in place of agave nectar), doesn't really need to be baked (although, when baked, the consistency doesn't change, it just meshes together better). The consistency is a lot like that of a clif bar when baked.

My spin on it is a bit firmer and more dry, but still solid.

To think I never even tried google, searched a few nutrition sites but thought I'd check here where the cyclists reside. Thanks for the info and the laugh!

I'm gonna try your recipe first, hopefully this weekend. I may mix in a few things from the google link as well, but I am looking for that clif bar consistency or even a little drier, that's fine with me.

Thanks again!
