Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - old Alan "aluminum anodized" Daccordi Price check, please!

I have googled and googled, but I can't figure out how to appraise this bicycle. I bought it from a bicycle mechanic a few months ago, and after letting it sit I have finally settled on moving it along so that I can pay bills. I payed $300 with a wheelset, and I don't know if I got ripped off or if I can get that money back. Check out those rear dropouts! Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Someone was selling NOS framesets on ebay for around $250 to $275. How did you arrive on the price you paid? Since you bought the bike not long ago, I would assume it has not gone up in value. probably flat. Cyclone brake calipers should have some value as well.

Around here, complete bikes over $200 get very little interest. Everyone is looking for a $150 bike +/-. As a result, really sweet higher end used bikes are going cheap.

So you are probably looking at ebay, unless you are in a large vibrant bike market (I don't know that north central FL meets that description)..

I would pay no more than $150 for that frame, but thats just me.

Well, if I recall correctly he started at $375 and I offered $300. The bike also had matching cyclone derailleurs, and I got a nice set of Campagnolo C Record hubs with the bike. I assumed the value in it was for its rarity and the all aluminum construction. I've scoured articles on aluminum Daccordi bikes but haven't found any that look like this one.

Where I live, I have been able to take advantage of the "hipster tax" on bike frames before because there are a lot of satellite towns where old steel bikes are worthless to the locals. I'm afraid I might have gotten railed by the so called hipster tax on this bike.

You'll have more luck on eBay. Keep in mind that it's a small frame, and those usually go for less. I imagine you'll get $200, roughly. Start your bid at $100 and see how it goes from there. Take GOOD pictures, of every joint, any imperfection, and list those too, you'll get more positive bidding if people know what's going on.

I was planning on selling it on Ebay. Small frames go for less? On the college scene, at least where I live, people pay a mint for old small frames because it seems all the older bikes were built for taller people. This bike happens to fit my tiny 30" legs, the reason I bought it.

Well, then... ok. It's just how it usually goes. 54cm frames and up usually fetch more money than smaller. Though anything over 62cm also usually doesn't get as much money.

Great eyes. Now that you point it out, it does look like a crack.

Yes, that is a crack (one of the most common places too). Frame is ruined.

Fork may be intact.

I didn't notice the crack before. This whole venture has made me pretty disappointed. After consulting a few guys at a couple of my LBS's I've decided to build it up as a single speed and ride it around. I'll keep my eye on the crack, but as it is I don't think it's going to be catastrophic.

Couldn't be farther from the truth. That crack is a problem - sooner or later, your head tube is going to crack open and spill you to the ground.

If your LBS's suggested that the crack was a non-issue, I'd find myself some new shops.
