Tandem Cycling - Our "New" Co Motion Speedster

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, we did it. After a lot of helpful inputs from all of you on this forum, we made our decision and picked up our "new" 2007 Co Motion Speedster this afternoon. We started our search looking at older (and less expensive) used bikes, but just kept edging up the scale. We are so sure we are going to love "tandeming", we wanted to make sure we got something we wouldn't be replacing in a year or two.
The bike was originally purchased as a frame only from Co Motion and built-up by our LBS. It has all Ultegra components (including rear derailleur), the Avid rear disk brake, a Chris King Headset and Sun rims/White Industries hubs (the bike had Rolf Primas, but we traded to save $$'s).
Now all we need is some nice weather and a deserted stretch of road to figure everything out (keeping in mind that the stoker is NEVER wrong).

Very nice bike! A quality machine that will take good care of you. I like the the idea of going with the built-up wheels also. Whats is the color combo?
that looks like a very nice bike, indeed. I'm sure you wil enjoy it for many miles to come
Would you mind telling a little more about the rear rack? What's the make of it?
It appears that it is mounted on the brake mounts, not the usual rack mounts?
Also, what is the rear light? That looks like an interesting solution.

thanks to everyone
to answer some of your questions:
color combo is Co Motion's snowhite pearl faded to cinnamon pearl
the rear rack is the Old Man Mountain rack that is compatible with the disc brake - the brackets that attach the rack are outside of the brake attachment - if we remove the rack, we will need to use a different skewer
the rear light is a Cateye LED attached with an Innovation Systems coupler - I'll probably move that to the center of the rear rack

Congrats on the beautiful bike. The quote is "the stoker makes no mistakes", meaning that the captain is responsible for any mistakes. The stoker can be "wrong".

Nice Speedster, should be smooth and fun. Hope you enjoy it and get plenty of use out of it.

Beautiful bike, we have a Comotion Speedster also, but it's about 5 years old now. We also have the same rack. It is a pain to take off the rear wheel with that set up, but hopefully you won't get many flats.
Have a great time!!!

Great looking bike. I am ready to start logging some miles also. Bring on the warm temps.

Warm weather is here!
Only 63 degrees today and going up to 72 tomorrow. Not shabby for tail-end of February.
The joys of living in Arizona . . . snow visible on top of the mountain and skiing only 25 miles away while we pedal TWOgether in the sunshine.

Okay - you're starting to get me thinking about moving to a warmer place. Winter storm warnings all day today - and lake effect snow through Saturday. Might be the time to join the exodus of people leaving MI.
With posting your bike, it is another paint fade that is done horizontally. These are very cool.
Our bike was painted with a vertical fade, I was told this is a "linear fade". At first I wasn't sure but it's not that bad, just not what we normally see. The colors are Metallic Cranberry and Metallic Pewter. From the back all the tubes are Pewter, from the sides and front it's cranberry.
I'd love to see up close a pearl white, or some of the other House of Kolor pearls. Done right those colors can be stunning.
