Northern California - Best bike deals in SF Bay area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Where can one find the best deals (last year models,...) on new mid-range road bikes (cheaper carbon, better alloy frames + 105 or similar components) in the Bay area? Preferably close to Santa Clara?

You can check out Bicycle Outfitter in Los Altos. At this time of year they might still have a few of last years models and not too bad prices. If you're lucky they might have your size.

I think your best bet is to know what you want, make a list of shops you're willing to drive to, and then pick up the phone to see what they've got. A lot of shops will have last years models around (given this economy), but you'll be limited to sizes and colors/specs. Don't be afraid to drive some distance for a great deal, but patience and a phone could pay off in a big way.

I'd agree with kedosto.
Shop pricing varies considerably on any given item, so no one shop is likely to have the best prices for everything.
I bought my 2007 Specialized Roubaix for $1,400 last April at Go Ride in Redwood City, and they always have a good selection of older models. They also provide lifetime tune ups and fittings. Their web site has a list of their close out bikes. Check out www.goridebicycles.com.

All the local bike shops have sales during the winter, some times as much as 1/3 off on last season's name brand bicycles, though selection of sizes and colors can by spotty.
If you're looking for very cheap off-brand stuff, try Performance. They have several stores in the Bay Area. Some of their stuff is very good quality for the price.

I was in Livermore Cyclery yesterday (the one in Livermore, not the one in Dublin), and there were a lot of "Sale" tags on nice new high-end Trek and Specialized road machines. They carry a lot of stuff, so their selection is likely to be better than most.
The same is probably true of their mountain bikes, too, but since I don't care about mountain bikes, I didn't pay attention to those.
If they have what you need, it's worth the drive to Livermore. Steve Howard, the owner, is a great guy and a font of knowledge.
Some good deals on Craigslist.
