I have just began my "journey into racing" or quite possibly "my journey to the emergency room" :)
I have been riding for a little over a year and have been in 2 crits. My question to the experienced is what drills did you do to improve your bike handling? I believe my strength is up to par for the cat 5s but my bike handling is not. I have been involved in a wreck during training and I don't want to hurt anyone due to my lack of handling skills.
thanks for the help

i guess a good way would be to practise...find somewhere with a lot of turns and try to negotiate them. another thing you can do is find an empty parking lot and set up some cones and make yourself a little crit course. i dont race yet but by finding routes through my area with lots of turns ive greatly improved my turning and confidence going into the turns

There are many different techniques used in cornering depending on the corner, the camber, the weather, the road conditions, etc.... To try to explain them would require a tome.

Probably the best resource for someone who is serious about learning to ride is to find a coach who knows these techniques. If one is not immediately available through your local racing club, then perhaps you can find one in your area by going to www.bicyclecoach.com .
