I have DA 7800 levers and an FSA SL-K carbon bar.

To get the optimum position(for me) for the tops(especially because they're flat and fsa puts them at a stupid angle), the hoods, and the drops I would have to install the levers just above the textured attachment area on the handlebars.

Would doing this be a huge mistake?

I just don't want to buy new bars, I really like everything else about these bars but if I can't get them to fit me correctly then I'm sol. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I did this cos I wanted my hoods more upwards. My bars were K-Wings which has a flat section before the hood clamp section. I am guessing the FSA SL-K is similar. I knew I might scratch it but I did not mind. I just made sure clamps were in the round section and not any part of the flat section.

The only downside I noticed is the transition from the flats to the hood is a bit abrupt. The next time I tape my bars I plan on putting in some gel inserts to make it feel more natural.

And you haven't had any slippage or ill effects due to this lever placement?

I've put over 300 miles since this change and it has not budged one bit. FYI, I am around 135 LBs and do not pull the hoods for extra pedal force. Also the roads around here are not the smoothest.
