Framebuilders - finding a pair of couplers..

I want to find a set of two couplers, preferrably btc stainless. Im having a hard time finding a way to get a pair due to they are only sold to professional and approved frame builders, and Ive yet to find a roundabout way, say second hand or a brand that does not have this policy. Any ideas?

And PLEASE save your time and mine if your going to lecture me on their reasoning behind this policy. I also dont need info about installing, safety, etc. Just trying to find a set. Thanks, Lou

No help on the S&S, but a friend of mine recently picked up a set of "Breakaway" couplers brand new from Ritchey, no worries about getting "approved"....just a thought.

I looked on the Ritchey site, and I did find some of the brackets, but what do they attach to?
I understand the S&S policy, but it does make it a pain.

The only way I know of is to get them from someone who is a frame builder. I have a guy who says he will get them for me, though I have yet to feel the need strongly enough. I think it would be unfair for anyone to talk about a deal like that since the builder could get cut off. I would like a single one if that carbon drive system ever starts selling parts for real.

The S&S are certainly the most bling, but there are other ways of making the bike break, that may even be better.

Thanks guys, im going to check out the breakaways now. I agree, I wouldnt want to screw over a framebuilder. Thought it would be fun to try it on my rattle can beater and see how it goes; it would be knice to have it to travel with too. Ill post if I get a pair and if I start the project. Keepem coming if anyone knows some more.

Couldn't talk the lbs into taking the S&S equipped bike apart to look at the inside of the couplers, but from what I've seen on their site, do you still need two for the belt drive application? They don't look like there is any space between the two tube ends.

Just seems to be one, and probably a certain amount of force. None of that stuff in the rear end is all that stiff once the wheel is removed and the stay broken. If one was making a bike for sale, one might want to consider gussets or something to ensure a buyer didn't get too frisky with the tweaking.
