Mavic CXP33's?

My main wheels have developed some potentially fatal bends.

Anyone had experience with Mavic CXP33's?

Other recommendations for strong wheels are gratefully accepted.

nice profile, but the cxp33s don't have spoke eyelets , dn the rims tend to fill with water and grit in bad weather.

I'm not sure how strong they are; I cracked my rear CXP33 near a nipple after only 18 months. It was roughly a one inch crack along the rim. I don't know how it happened; i didn't crash, or slam into a big pothole that i could recall. I was probably 190lbs at the time.

Shame, I really liked them. They are nice and stiff, and light enough for a deepish rim, but I don't think I'll buy any more. I like the look of the new DT RR 1.1 http://www.dtswiss.com/index.asp ,

dont recommend them at all. i weigh 120 pounds and broke 3 spokes within a month..

I'm over 200 and I've been on mine for 4 years and they haven't even needed truing. I don't go offroad a whole lot but these have been great. The only problem is a bump in one rim caused by a dive into a pothole. That was my fault though, not the rim's.

If you want a 'road' width, bullet-proof rim, I own some Mavic CXP30s and some Rigida DP18s that I don't think I could bust if I tried. They are very heavy at ~570 to 590g, rim only (I now only use them on the rear for training), but they both are 30mm deep, so they're super stiff too.

I don't think the Mavic CXP30 is available anymore but the Rigida is, and there's a few other companies that make a strong, 30mm deep rim.......Velocity is one that springs to mind.

While we're on the subject of rims, what's a good rim for wide-***** tyres? Anything from a 35c to a 2" 29er tyre. I'm gonna build up a cross bike type thing, and I have no idea what rims to fit. How wide should a rim be to take a 1.5-2" tyre anyway?

WTB Speed Master rims are design for 700x35c tires. You can find them at www.Bikeman.com
I built them this year for my hybrid bike which I use for trail riding and road use. Love them, strong and light. I have a friend who also uses these rims and at 200 lbs. he has jumped off curves with them and ponced on trails without losing true. I ride the trails quite often and haven't trued the rims yet.
