I'm going to register for Ronde Van Brisbeen.... who else is going?

Can't decide whether to register for E4 or Masters 35+ 4. Any suggestions?

Circuit and/or crit?

I'm there for the e4 circuit, no crit.

The wind tends to pick up in afternoon in brisbane, if that makes a difference to you.

Yeah which race?

I'll probably try and do one of them.

Circuit sounds good to me :)

BlastRadius
02-18-09, 06:49 PM
Well both :) M35+4 starts at 10am and E4 at 1pm... earlier in the day would be better for me.
I'm just kinda of concerned about which field will be sketchier since this will be the first time I'll be in a field of potentially 100+.

how about both?
I did 4 races last year, but I think I'll only do 3 this year.
1 crit and 2 circuit races.
Both are fun courses.
The crit has lots of tight turns and can me very windy. The circuit has a nice little hill and is also usually windy with the wind in your face when going uphill.

Blast, what field are you racing at Menlo Park? ahem!

Last year I did the circuit. It has a fun hill during which I picked people off. The finish is uphill, too, so you might enjoy that.

I race CAT 4 although I'm eligible for 35+ or 45+. I race against women younger than me because they may lack my experience, or be equal to my experience. If I were to race in my age group I'd be racing against CAT 1, 2, 3 &4. I can handle suffering; I don't like having my nose rubbed in it.

I'll be at both, E5.

Just curious, what percent grade is the hill in the circuit race/how long is it?

BlastRadius
02-20-09, 09:37 AM
Looks like it's about .85 miles with max grade of 6% but mostly less.

OK. I'm in for E4 both days.

Hey Owner, how come Brian M. doesn't reply to my and Al's emails?

Hmm, he's been having ISP problems for a while, so it might be that. Can you PM me the email address you have for him? I can also call him and let him know what's going on.

Rode it the circuit course this afternoon. Fairly windy, and I tried to stay in the gutter to prepare myself. The uphill has 3 parts. Part 1 kinda up, Part 2 almost flat, Part 3 somewhere in between 1 & 3...then downhill...weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Should be fun.

I just realized that I'm going to be out of town and off the bike for a whole week. I get back the day before the race weekend. Hah, I guess I'll see what I can do on stale legs.

I'd like to extend an invite to BF'ers to join a teammate or two of mine this Sunday AM to check out the courses then some repeats up the SB Mtn Summit.

Pace will be whatever it is or isn't, but nobody will be left behind. Also, the # of repeats you want is up to you :)

Hopefully I will make it on Saturday; I caught a slight cold this morning and I don't want to make it worse by doing a hard ride.

Here are some cool videos from last year's circuit races.

Awesome, looks like a fun course.

To those who live in San Francisco: anyone thinking about riding to this? I don't have any means on transportation, so I figure a nice ride over there would be my warmup. (proposed route: wiggle - Valencia/Mission - somehow cross that mess at 280 - Alemany - Geneva - Bayshore)

Sorry Henry, I'm hoping to be back by noon'ish, so I can do some more riding with the family @ 92. Do let me know how Spectrum is VS PenVelo though.

So, looks like mtg spot is 9am @ Glen Park...hope you all can make it. Atleast one person is heading over from GGP area.

It's cool Henry.

Man that climb on the 2nd half of the circuit may only be like 4% or so, but the headwind SUCKED!!! I still kept it in the 50 ring, but damn I was killing myself.

One interesting 90 deg left and one 90 deg right are the only technical areas. This will be a very FAST course. I am worried about the climb into the wind for sure.

I guess I just try to stay with the lead group, and see where it goes.

uspspro
03-24-09, 11:33 AM
Damn there are like 7 PenVelo people in my race. Webcor has 4. No other big team numbers in cat 5.

I hope the wind is not as bad on race day as it was last night.

Ahhh... but I will be 1/2 asleep. ;)

Hey so how does the 50 mins work for a circuit? ... 50 min plus one lap, or what?

BlastRadius
03-24-09, 12:46 PM
They'll take the time for the first couple of laps and estimate how many laps will be completed in 50 mins. Then you'll see lap cards for the last 5-6 laps.

uspspro
03-24-09, 12:49 PM
cool.

Pizza Man

I'm hoping for no wind too, since the headwind on the climb effectively neutralizes it. Strong climbers can't get away since it's so easy for everyone else to sit on and draft.

Though if you can get away, you have a good chance of staying away since no one likes to pull up the hill into the wind.

I have found the best tactic to break away is to sit in on the climb and attack right at the finish line at the top as you start to go downhill. Sprinting the first several pedal strokes down the hill can get you a good gap quickly.

Where exactly is the finish line? Just before those apartments/condos?

At the top of the hill, pretty much right where that cul de sac, W. Hill Pl. runs into W. Hill Dr.

+1, when the pace goes up, the ones whose fitness isn't there yet start getting squirrely because they're in oxygen debt.
