I would like to know if there is any truth in that eating pork meat is unhealthy for you? Whats the general consensus and the scientific reasoning on your opinions?

Nothing is 'healthy' or 'unhealthy', only it's use/abuse. - TF

Well I think it probably has to do with pork being fattier than other meats. But ham can be very lean. Pork tenderloin is also lean. It just depends on what you eat. Eating quite a bit of ribs, bacon and sausage is probably an express ticket to the cardiac wing of the local hospital.

An occasional excursion into the fattier meats wont kill you. Eating bacon everyday for breakfast is not a good idea though. And as stated before, certain pork products can be quite lean and a good source of protein.
That said, it has to be pork that was raised properly and treated with preventitive measures. You do not want trichinosis.

Mark Cavendish eats bacon during races. that's all you need to know.
Trichinosis is pretty rare in the US currently. Trichinosis is caused by a parasite that gets into the muscle of the host. You and pigs get it from eating infected flesh. Cooking things to a "medium" level kills the parasite.
Pigs used to be routinely fed pig offal. So pigs were infected at high enough rates to warrent always cooking pork to a pretty done state.
Trichinosis infections from commercially produced pork are not pretty rare but are not totally unknown. You can probably get away with eating underdone pork but there is a small risk. Most cases of trichinosis today come from eating undercooked game - wild boar, bear and even cougar jerky.
Of course, given the cut backs the Bush administration made on FDA inspections the risk might have gone up.

I figured pork was pretty similar health wise to beef, even though I'm sure beef has more protein. It is surprising how many people say that pork meat is unhealthy but Im sure that it may be pure ignorance. I love bacon!!!

I never eat pork since pigs are smarter than dogs, but there's nothing wrong with eating some fat here and there.
