One blue star is a moderator, three blue stars is an Administrator. The little eagle is an Igor, which indicates that one has made a charitable contribution, in either time or money (that's in honour of Sheldon Brown). The little yellow shirt is a Titanium member (the replacement for the red stars).
If you see a member's name in black, that member is either off-line, or in stealth mode. Members names in red indicate that the member is online. A member's name with a little + next to it indicates that that member is one of your friends.
