I ordered a Brooks Team Pro and proofhide. Got the saddle, but no proofhide. They said whoever took the order didn't get it down. Rather than paying $8 dollars for shipping and $8 for the proofhide itself, is there an alternative I can use that is just as good? Can this be purchased at your local boot shop? I heard Neatsfoot oil (spelling) is terrible for the life of a leather saddle. Thanks for the tips to come.

Obenauf's Leather Preservative. Use a smaller amount, smaller than even the amount of Proofide one would use.

Yes, Neatsfoot Oil is really not good for a Brooks... avoid it.

Considering how long the proper stuff will last, I'd just get whatever Brooks recommend, just in case. EHen I ordered my saddle a month ago, I just got them to stick some proofride in the same box.

I use the Obenauf's Leather Preservative that Istanbul_Tea mentions. So far so good but I've only had the saddle for 4 months or so.

Complain to the people who shipped the saddle. It was their fault that they messed up your order. They should eat the shipping. Most merchants will do that.

Don't use Neasfoot Oil. It'll turn your saddle into a baseball glove.

I got 2 Brooks

I did the motor oil over night soak treatment on my Profesional.
and just ocasional proofide on my B-17.

The B-17 is still stiff like new after a couple of seasons.

The Profesional is very soft and supple.

Both are comfortable but I like the B-17 better. I think it fits better but I also think the Profesional is overly soft and stretchy now.

Stick with the proofhide

Rivendell recommends Obenauf's, which I have been using on a new Swift and a very old Brooks B-17N. It seems to be a good restorative for the B-17N and rubs nicely into both.

DO NOT USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN PROOFIDE ON A BROOKS SADDLE OR YOUR WARRANTY WILL BE VOIDED!!!! Don't listen to anyone's goofy goop ideas unless you don't care about the warranty. Brooks has been making their saddles for about 100 years...I think they know what is the best product to use on their saddles.
