Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Abused Guerciotti

I'm an ex bike racer (raced in the 70's) who acquired an abused Guerciotti bike several years ago mostly because I felt sorry for it back then and hoped I could do something with it to get it fixed up. By "abused" I mean the top tube is has a dent in it and there are numerous small rusty areas (cable guides etc) on areas of the main frame. The chrome chain stays are very pitted and rusty and the seat stays have some rust on them too. It has "60 P" on the underside of the bottom bracket which I guess means it's a 60 cm frame? It has Shimano 600 components. I've realized this is beyond anything I can fix up and I would like to sell it to someone who could maybe restore it or use it in some way before it gets any worse. I don't have any idea what it's value would be and wondered if anyone could provide more info about it's value. Thanks .

the should have been put in the valuations section. Nice looking bike, too bad about the chrome. My racing bike is "abused" by your standard, sweat does that sort of thing.

It will depend a lot on your location but you could probably get a few hundred for it in that condition. Many "bike-guys" love a project and, in that condition, this bike is definitely a project-bike. The only problem might be the dent; post up some photos of close-ups of the dent and that will give us a better idea of what the bike might be worth.

Thanks for your imput everyone. The bike is in the Harrisburg PA area. I'm attaching two more pictures of the dent in the top tube. As you can see, it's about half way across the tube, on the left side. Interested in anyone's thoughts. Thanks.

Hrm, that is a pretty bad dent, you would have to find a person who really wants a 60cm Guerciotti. What type of tubing is the frame? I assume it is not straight but is it rideable?

The top tube actually looks pretty straight to me and it seems to be quite rideable. I'm too short to ride it but my husband has and although he's not used to racing bikes, he seemed to do fine with it. I'll try to get a picture of the top tube, looking down on it, to show how it looks.

I really want a 60cm Guerciotti fork...

Seriously though, if you do part it out, I would be most interested in the fork. I have an '83 that has been in dire need of one.

I've got a basketcase 58cm Guerciotti I'm currently in the process of building up. It had quite a bit of surface rust I cleaned up and sealed with clear nail polish. No dents in mine. I purchased the entire bike (with a mish-mash of mid-level components) for $150, which I felt was too much, but I had traveled an hour by car to see it, the seller had other interested parties, and I have trouble saying no...so.

With those dents and the rust, I think you might have trouble selling it for very much, but who knows. They are very nice framesets, very likely a mix of Columbus SL and SP (due to the larger size).

60cm is my preferred size. Care to trade basketcases? :lol:

I think I'll keep "my basketcase" rather than swap But thanks for the offer. :-) I've posted the bike on our local (Harrisburg PA) area Craigslist and i think I have someone who is willing to give me $125-$150 for it and I'll probably take that, as that seems like a fair offer. He'd seen it earlier when I'd advertised some bike panniers and so he has at least an idea of what it needs. This fellow plans to restore it, which would make me happy.

$125 to $150 is a good offer. That is a pretty serious dent, one that will scare away most buyers.
