I'm trying to decide between the Hardcores and the Cascadias, and it would be hand to justify the extra expense for the Cascadias if I'm only going to replace the mudflaps anyways.

So, are the mudflaps on the Planet Bike Hardcore fenders (namely the front one) hard to remove?

Nope. Just drill out the rivets.

The mudflaps are easy to remove, but the Cascadia hardware is much beefier. Having those V-stays both front and rear make the fenders more solid. I have both types on my bikes and both work well, I took the mudflaps off the Hardcore's and put on the Cascadia's as well.

yep, the front hardcore fender is very flimsy

I'm thinking of some sort of reinforcing it.

Nope. Just drill out the rivets.

One of my rivets just spun in its hole so I traced the curvature of the fender on a block of wood, cut it, used it to clamp the fender to my miter saw and cut the mud flap off at a 45º angle. The admittedly flimsy front fender no longer wobbles as much without the weight of the mud flap and that last 2" of plastic.
