NEW YORK -- New York City police say an officer seen in a YouTube video body-checking a bicyclist to the pavement during a protest has been kicked off the force, though his lawyer says he resigned.

Police officials said today that Patrick Pogan was dismissed last week. He was suspended last year after pleading not guilty to criminal charges of filing false paperwork.

His lawyer, Stuart London, insists his 23-year-old client resigned before he could be fired and expects to be vindicated at trial.

The charges stemmed from the July arrest of Christopher Long, a cyclist from Hoboken, during a Critical Mass ride through Times Square. Click to the AP link; it appears charges have been filed against the former officer. Likely for filing a false report, because we all know that body slamming a cyclist is no big deal!

Would it be too rude to say... Justice is served.

Rude? No. It's appropriate if you ask me.

I shoulda used an AP link as well but I liked the GM source because it has the youtube link(s).

Job Loss and Charges are indeed appropriate.

Yes. Nothing undermines confidence in the justice system like lying officers. The guy needs to be fired to serve as a deterrent.

Huzzah!

Would it be too rude to say... Justice is served.

Not rude, merely premature.

Justic will have been served if he is convicted of Filing a False report, convicted of assault, and receives an appropriate sentence.

Was the cyclist injured? If so, where are the assault charges? How 'bout a big fat civil suit too.

It's garbage like that which gives us LEO's a bad name...I can't imagine being so stupid as to do something like that in likely the most public and video recorded area in the world. No excuse and needs to be reprimanded appropriately.

Justice hasn't been served yet. But we have been served an appetizer! :)

I got a chuckle from one of the comments on the linked blog:
"So long, NYPD, hello Blackwater." Simply perfect.

Yeah it only took 6 months to fire him? Plus, he probably is already on another PD already.
