View Full Version : What's happening to me?

I lost twentyfive lbs. using the Atkins diet since December. In February I decided to augment the diet by lifting weights. In Early March I knocked the dust off the old ten speed and started riding. That first five miles about killed me. I just did a thirty mile ride Sunday (and It felt SOOOO GOOD).
I'm making progress with both the weights and the biking. The hills aren't near as big as they used to be, and I can lift a lot more weight more times than when I started.
But I seemed to have reached a plateau. I'm not losing any more weight, but at the same time, my pants are getting looser and looser. What's up with that?
And now that I'm working out, I realize I do need some carbs, but I don't know how much in proportion to protein and fat intake.
Any suggestions?

Sounds to me like your toning up your muscles. Muscle weighs more than fat so even though your not losing weight, your getting more toned/slimmer.

Wish I could do that. :(

Did you get bit by a spider, spill some radioactive waste on yourself? Can you spin a web, or gain 200 lbs by getting mad?

Seriously, I go in thirds. 1/3 fat. 1/3 protein, 1/3 carbs (in calories, not grams. but I do keep in eye on the protein grams and supplement with powder)..or somewhere there about. I eat more protein when I'm weight training, and carbs when riding. You need carbs to ride, IMO. I do try to cut fat, but it so good!

If you are at the wieght you want, consider backing of the Atkins. It is my opinion a balanced diet is the way to go for the long haul.

Actually ehenz, at first it was the look in the mirror bug, followed by the diet bug, then the weight bench bug, then the mother of All bugs, the biking bug.
Actually I used to be quite fit years ago (didn't we all?), but a desk job and an Italian wife that can cook pretty much did me in for a while. But so far I've manage to get back in the routine fairly rapidly.
Thirds in calories. Cool. I love simple equations.
I still have another 15lbs to go to be where I should be, plus there's this one hill that just stands there and laughs at me and I just cain't stand it.
