I do. But then I live in a somewhat small community. There are two guys in Summit that get the BIG thumbs up for spot on wrenching. One of them is the only guy I let mount my tele gear. I always tip these guys because they get paid peanuts for doing something they love to do. To me, their passion and skill is my piece of mind and I think that's worth a little something extra.

I think the tippage has paid off. When I'm in a jam ...like before a race or something that is on a schedule, I get put in the front of the repair line. Sometimes the work is done free too.

Tippage = $$$, beer or nuggets ...their preference.

Never a bad idea to be on some one's good side... particularly in a pinch.

I do all my own work, so I tip myself with a beer.

I think I'd take the nugs. Good idea though, remind me to tip them next time. Peace.

As a former mechanic tipping made me feel uncomfortable but if you want to get to your mechanic's heart... show up when the shop opens with coffees and muffins :D

I can appreciate the sentiment. And I'm not a homophobe... really. But, me thinks I'll look like a bit of a "muffin" myself if I show up with coffee and sweets. I only want to "get to my mechanic's heart" if she's sexy and rides fast. ;)

Wouldn't hurt if she was a tele rippin' babe too. Oh yeah, I already have a GF just like that.

Food, beer, and money are all appreciated. A sincere thankyou is also quite adequate

Tipping down here is just not done. Virtually everyone gets paid an award wage, so no-one tips, it's not part of our culture. However saying thankyou and meaning it, goes just as far.

CHEERS.

When I worked at Bikecology, I occasionally received a tip for installing a bumper or roof rack on a car, but rarely for any other work. Since I do my own mechanical work, I suppose no tip is necessary, as Avalanche noted above.
