Tandem Cycling - It's a start.

Strangly, not DIY, but an old Adams' accessory. I have two, but one is on my wife's Sole Ride.

Great way for the family to do something together and get exercise. Have fun.


Also, we found with a young child it helps if you can do something to make the ride fun, i.e. ride to a playground, the pool, the ice cream shop, anything that gives them a reward, and breaks up the ride.

We took the rig out today for just a 3.5 mile ride, but it felt like 15 uphill. We figured the rolling weight of both bikes and humans was around 600 pounds! My wife rode with us by herself on her own bike. We're aiming for an organized ride April 18th in St. Stephan's, SC that is only 10 miles, but is a fund raiser for more recreational trails in South Carolina.

My Cannondale R500 is going to feel like cotton whenever I ride it again.

I don't feel it. My son is strong and provides excellent stoking power. I've been setting up trailercycles, in large quantities, in rentals for almost 10 years and get any unnecessary wobble out of a hitch. I added Look clipless pedals on the captain's crank for me.

How do you get all the play out of an Adams Trail-a-bike? That has been my only issue with our long train, My 4 y.o. is usually pretty well centered, but maybe he gets bored? The junction between the bike female seatpost adapter and the male interface is tight, but there is some play within the "universal joint" (or whatever it's called). I am not sure that eliminating this play will keep him from influencing the train or not, so we are working on his smooth pedaling technique, but I know we thinks it's fun bouncing all over. So... we are keeping to un-busy side streets for now.

Tighten the two 10mm nuts a bit. It won't help when the child throws weight around back there.

Looks like a fun train- start looking for the triplet now! My daughters both enjoy the tandem ride more than their half bikes.

I was thinking about drilling out the hitch reciever on ours for a bit larger pin that would fit tightly. The stock pin fit is pretty sloppy. I haven't really checked it out closely but I bet thats where most of the wobble comes from. Not thats its that bad.. not bad enough to actually get me to do it yet. I haven't tried ours on the back of a tandem yet. Was worried about the turning. Your post has inspired me to want to give it a try..
