I managed to score myself a set of '04 Ksyrium SSC wheels :), and I have a question regarding rim strips. Specifically, do I need to use them with this wheelset? The interior of the wheel is completely smooth (no spoke holes). The only 'rough' part is where the hoop is welded together. This part came covered with a piece of black tape.
The manual that came with these wheels is a bit terse. It makes no mention of the need for rim tape. There is a tiny pictogram where the rim is welded together that seems to indicate that the internal seam where the weld is needs to be covered.
Anyone else out there running these wheels? Are you using rim strips/tape?
