Oh my goodness, look how long it took me to discover this! I washed my bottle with baking soda. It looks, smells and tastes like new. I had to soak the inside for a few minutes, but so what?

Is this a well kept secret?

Well, I hope it's useful to some of you.

No secret, but glad you are using this method. I have used this method for almost 30 years (I know, I'm old, oh wait, I can't be old, my kids are young!)

Boiling water followed by diluted lemon juice. Works great for new bottles to get rid of the plastic taste too.

I just leave mine in the cage after my ride; then refill it before I leave on the next one. Am I supposed be cleaning these things?

denture cleaner tablets, one or two per bottle, fill with water, let it fizz and drain it after 30 minutes

If it doesn't taste bad or look bad to you, then I guess it doesn't matter. After a while, for me, the taste becomes unbearable, and it can't be healthy, either.

I just need the added boost of the extra carbs and protein provided by whatever is growing inside the bottle.

... or what is flowing in the streets ... bleck

last year during a commute in a rain storm I drove through some flowing water that smelled like raw sewage. needless to say I did not drink from my bottle after that. i don't have sport tops but am slowly replacing my bottles with those that have the caps

Top rack. Lower rack may result in puddles of HDPE:eek:
