Northern California - Lance and the Yellow Devil in the Snow

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Did you guys see this? I missed it, and just came across it on the web. It is real, it happened on Stage 4. The cyclingtv announcers heartily approve (see below).

+1 for Lance. I hate non-static mountain spectators.

Agreed. If you want to make your point, don't do it in a way that endangers the riders.
So what do you think the guy was yelling in the last frame? I'm guessing it rhymed with "gas pole."

Briliant! I was watching live on cycling.tv when this happened but wasn't paying super close attention and so I didn't notice the push itself, only the announcers' reaction to it.

I'm not a big Lance fan, I respect what he has accomplished and all, but his stock just went up with me. I am diggin the smiles on the faces of the riders behind who witnessed it. Hope they don't try and fine Lance for his actions for clearly Lance understood that the spectator was going to endanger the remaining peloton as the real estate on the side of the road was lessening.
Well played Lance 'ol boy...well played!
What an ass. GTFO of the way! Bumblebee Man is lucky he didn't hurt anyone.

no doubt. pretty funny stuff.
I saw another rider lash out on stage 8 up Palomar - unfortunately some real idiots out there. Good to see Antler guy though.
I can't remember, maybe it was the Palomar climb but some kid was running along side then suddenly ran across the street right in front of the climbers. Even shocked Joe and Frankie on Tour tracker.
That was the first KOM on stage 8 before Palomar I think. It was pretty unbelievable.

Something about KOM challenges that brings out the most complete morons of the world. I guess the US morons are trying to out-moron the French morons.

I replayed that in slo-mo on my DVR. It was Mick Rogers who boxed that nit in the ear. Kudos to him.
Good to see Antler guy though. Eh, can't say I agree. I wish all those idiots would just go away.
And while we're on the subject, why oh why are nearly all those idiots who run alongside the peleton FAT ?!?
Ow, my eyes! :twitchy:

I don't have a problem with anyone who puts a bit of effort into a costume, runs along but gives the riders room/doesn't interfere or endanger anyone - think Didi Senft. Sadly, a good chunk of the folks on the Palomar climb failed in one or more of those respects.
Just my $0.02.

Beaker, I agree.
Let's hope that next year the organizers encourage venues to remind people that the race is about the racers and if other folks want to have fun they should make sure that their actions don't get in the way.

I caught the rider on Stage 8 that smacked a guy in the head when he got too close. Watched another one actually push Floyd Landis on one of the climbs. I',m not sure if a rider can be penalized for that.

I'm wondering when one of those nits is going to cause a chain reaction pileup at some crucial stage of the race, and perhaps injures some racers in the process. Pity the fool who does that.

Uhhhh, maybe it's becasue the women behave like Frat Girls? ;)
Which reminds me of the comment of a British friend who saw a NASCAR race in person for the first time:
"NASCAR fans appear to fall into two groups, the tatooed shirtless beerswilling swine, and their husbands."

Agreed. I hate when the spectators get too close to the riders, whether they're wearing costumes or not. The tifosi in the Giro d'Italia run quite close, and in large packs, as well. Didi Senft is cool, because his idea was unique at the time, and he doesn't get in the way. Many of the latest group of yahoos seem to be more interested in getting themselves in TV, whatever it takes, than in actually cheering the riders or contributing in some way.

What I like best about this is that Lance didn't even give the guy the satisfaction of looking at him. He just stiff-armed him into the snow while looking dead-ahead, and kept going.

Especially the ones who wear the Borat style body thongs. That's a crime to humanity!

Yes
The Borat thong is awful.
My father had surgury so we were watching at his house with one of his friends and the cringing was obvious when the borat thong team was cavorting on the side of the road.
But the Landis thing was more interesting. The guy was running next to him and once the runner got tired he pushed landis for like three steps.
Landis sort of looked back like "WTF" just happened as he sort of spurted forward a couple of bike lengths. Very odd.

You must have missed him the day before, when he wore the Longhorns instead of antlers. He could have taken out a few of the riders up front had he turned his head.
I am a fan of his, however. ;)

the Antlers he had on were huge, they must have been quite heavy.
His runs up the road with them on Sunday were quite spectacular, and he was never interfering with the race.
Overall the sort of odd fan that makes things work, unlike some of the tools who got the forearm shiver from the riders, or the moron with the baby.

That's a great picture, getting him jumping. I like how he does all the running in his Sidi's.
