Hi guys,

Just got my nice shiny sks mudguards and have fitted the rear one using the same eyelets as my rack. However the front one has problems getting around my disc brake. As you can see in the picture the correct hole to use is the bottom red one, even with a standoff the metal stays are still too close to bend properly and thus prevent the brake from returning to their neutral position. Now I was thinking about using the eyelet that the stays are in in the picture but this will involve lots of cutting and bending.

My questions:

Which would be better to use, the yellow eyelet (which the brake is currently attached to - i.e. put the stay on the outside and keep the brake on the inside) or the one it is currently it?

If I use the one it is currently in, should I do the same on the other side too?

Thanks

Daven

I have no firsthand experience with it, but I would advise against using the brake caliper mount for your fender. The mid-blade eyelet should be fine. Also - I would think that if you run the lower eyelet on the right side it might give you more support than having the mounts equal on each side i.e. asymmetrical chainstays on dual-suspension bikes.

thanks, I thought using the brake mount was a bit dodgy but I saw it done elsewhere and thought I'd throw it out there! I guess as long as the stays are bent correctly then the mudguard will be correctly positioned.

I will give it a shot tomorrow, just a bit nervous about cutting the stays...once it is done there is no going back!

get a longer screw and add a thick spacer(s) to clear the disc brake.
while you're at it, put the QR lever to the right side of the bike.

you want something like this: http://webshop.b-plastic.com/images/BD_G.PNG

so AEO are you saying it would be a bad idea to use the mid-blade eyelet?

it's not bad. but the fender to arm joint looks like it only wants the arms inserted on a right angle.
hard to tell from that pic.

Ye it does, but I think putting in a little bend there would be easier than bending it around the brake.

Will give it a shot tomorrow

Thanks
